As the number of cranes shows, Bedminster is seeing a huge amount of change at the moment as new blocks of apartments are built around East Street.

The area around East Street and North Street will be transformed in the coming years as more people move in and new businesses open. It’s an exciting time for BS3.

But this part of Bedminster is used to change and a quick trawl through the archives reveals an area that has seen plenty of developments.

Nobody alive now will remember the time when there was a huge colliery in Dean Lane, but the most senior Bedminster residents might just recall childhood visits to the long-gone Bedminster Hippodrome on East Street.
