To celebrate 30 years of rescuing and rehoming abandoned and unwanted cats and dogs, Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary has partnered with Bristol World to showcase 11 cats hoping to find their forever home, this Christmas.
Many of the cats have been at the sanctuary since a kitten, with a variety of reasons bringing each one to the fantastic Holly Hedge team.
The sanctuary’s founder, Pauline Leesome said: “Some come to us with broken hearts, broken bones and broken spirits and it is our mission to put them back together and make them whole again. Holly Hedge receives no government funding and relies on fundraising and the goodwill of our supporters to keep our gates open for the insurmountable numbers of pets needing our help. Please look at our website www.hollyhedge.org.uk to see our animals needing homes and ways in which you can help or donate. Thank you for caring.”
Lily is a lovely spirited and independent cat who likes everything to be on her own terms. She is looking for an adult-only home with people who have had experience of this kind of cat. She loves having time in our cat garden and enjoys sunbathing when the weather is good. When she does want affection she will initiate this and will want a gentle fuss for short periods at a time.
2. Palin and Portillo
These gorgeous boys are looking for a special foster home. They are both not quite feeling themselves, and their once huge appetite has severely diminished. The Holly Hedge team is trying to get to the bottom of what’s wrong, with regular vet checks and tests. Poor Portillo has also had a more invasive test and is now wearing the cone of shame. Due to this, Palin and Portillo are very much in need of the extra tlc, company, and home comforts that they can get in a home setting. Palin likes a little attention and when you hear his meow, you know he’s coming over for a fuss. Portillo is a little more laid back, but does enjoy company. They both enjoy playing with toys, and they both absolutely love being outdoors and spending time in our cat garden. Due to them both being long haired, they will need a daily grooming session, though they are super cute in the mornings with Palin and his ‘bed hair’, and Portillo looking like it’s the ‘morning after the party’. Holly Hedge is looking for a foster home that is close to the centre in Barrow Gurney as Palin and Portillo will need regular check ups on our vet visit days (usually a Monday afternoon unless it’s a bank holiday), and also close enough to Vale Vets in Portishead if they need urgent medical care. Being poorly, they will need a foster carer who is around most of the day to monitor them, and also to give them food little and often, spread throughout the day. Another big ask, would be for someone that has a cat proof catio/outside area that they can enjoy due to their love of being outside, we know this is a stretch, but we would love for them to have that extra bit of enjoyment in their lives, whilst they are feeling poorly and under the weather.
3. Breeze
Three-year-old Breeze is described by the sanctuary’s team as a gorgeous cat with beautiful markings. Breeze likes a fuss and will come and sit on your lap when she wants affection. She enjoys attention in short bursts but doesn’t like to be overfussed. She is a playful girl who likes exploring our cat garden and she loves playing with her toys. Breeze is not keen on other cats so will need a home where there are no other pets, as well as a neighbourhood with very few other cats around.
4. Winston and Tony
These two gorgeous boys were living as part of a colony before they came to Holly Hedge. Although they are used to being around people, Winston and Tony are both a bit hand-shy but getting braver by the day and sometimes enjoy a gentle fuss. They are both playful and adventurous cats, especially Tony who would play with string toys all day if he could! Winston sometimes just likes to chill out and watch Tony play. They also love being outdoors and playing in the sanctuary’s cat garden, so will need to live somewhere with access to a secure outdoor space or somewhere rural with no other cats around as Winston has been diagnosed with FIV. These two gorgeous cats really do love each other and are very bonded so we are looking for a home for them together. They have been at Holly Hedge a long time now and they cannot wait to find a place to call home.
