Locations were ranked based on the beauty of the surroundings and green spaces, provision of good state schools and affordable housing, as well as access to quality pubs, restaurants, independent shops and cultural attractions.

We visited Almondsbury to find out if locals agreed with the verdict.

The village is home to a lovely community shop run by volunteers, which recently won the Kings Award for Voluntary Service - the MBE for volunteer groups.

The schools in the area are also rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.

She praised the wide range of activities at the Village Hall, including The Last Legs for a gentlemen of a certain age, messy church for the younger children and societies like the “history, the wine, the badminton group, the table tennis group. There’s just lots going on for all sort of people.

“And we are very lucky here that we’ve got our own doctor’s surgery and our own dentist.”

Tom, who lives in the area, praised the villages connections. “We’re 10 minutes away from Cribbs Causeway and we’re about 20 minutes away from the middle of town so it’s a nice little hub for anything, really, where you need to get around Bristol.”

The only issues raised by locals were the lack of a bus within the village, parking and speeding.
