Bristol high streets have changed dramatically through the years and bigger changers are coming in the next few years, especially around the city centre.
We decided to take a moment to reflect on the changes and asked our readers which stores they used to love visiting and still miss.
The responses ranged from small independent stores to well known chains.
Here are 18 of the great stores we loved and miss dearly.

9. Replay Records
One of Bristol's best independent record stores, Replay started at Haymarket Walk, next to the Bear Pit before moving to Park Street. It closed down in 2006. | Richard Morgan via Flickr

10. Forever People
Now an Italian restaurant, Forever People was a small, higgledy-piggledy shop on Park Street that sold comic books and models. Popular with fans of 2000AD and DC comics, one regular customer was actor and former Bristol University student Simon Pegg, who namechecked it in his book Nerd Do Well. The store closed down in 2009. | Google Maps

11. Bristol Guild
The venue was founded in 1908 and was inspired by the philosophy of William Morris, an English textile designer, poet, artist, writer and socialist activist associated with the British Arts and Crafts movement. It was originally a space for artists and craftsmen to come together, learn from each other and sell their wares but more recently, it served as a small department store that showcased both local and foreign artists. It sadly closed down in May 2024. | BristolWorld

12. The Sweater Shop
The clothing company was established by Margaret Wood in 1973 in Barwell, Leicestershire. It was sold in 1995 to a management buyout for £150m and the company went into receivership in 1998. The Bristol store was located in The Galleries. | Annie via Google Maps
