The United Nations estimates more than 2.8 million people have now being displaced due to Russians invasion of Ukraine, with many fleeing their homes.

UNHCR head Filippo Grandi said that “this is the fastest-moving refugee crisis we have seen in Europe since the end of the second world war.”

A new initiative was launched yesterday by the UK Government to help house those displaced by the Ukraine conflict.

The scheme, called ‘Homes for Ukraine’, is the first official resettlement plan by the UK government to help people escaping the war in Ukraine. There will be no cap on the number of people from Ukraine coming into the UK.

As well as the new government initiative, a number of charities including the British Red Cross are taking donations for victims of the Ukraine war.

Here are a few places in Bristol where you can take your donations or make a financial contribution.

The organisers are constantly updating their list of required items on the village hall’s Facebook page.

The organisers announced this morning that the drop off point would be moving, due to the overwhelming response they received: “there has been such an overwhelming response to the Ukraine appeal that we are having to stop all drop off donations to the hall as from now.”

“So, so sorry for this but the small space in the hall that has been used, is not sufficient for the amount of donations received.”

The organisers have since launched an Amazon Wish List. The village hall announced that they are: “happy to accept these orders directly to pass to the organisers. Emersons Green Village Hall Emerson Way Emersons Green Bristol BS16 7AP.”
