The Haunted Bookshop: First look at much-anticipated Bristol "witchy" bookstore

The Haunted Bookshop has opened in what was a barbershop on Stokes Croft, after BristolWorld revealed plans for the new store back in June.

The shop offers a wide selection of fantasy, horror and witchcraft books, including ‘fantasy smut’, alongside items like candles, spell candles, incense burners and tarot cards.

The owner, Monika Killer, told BristolWorld: “I always had this thing where I’d go for a walk with my friends or we’d go down the pub and then we’d be walking around, and [I’d say], ‘Oh, look at that old building! That’s going to be my haunted bookshop.

“But it wasn’t really real, I’d never considered it seriously and then at the beginning of the year, I thought, well, I quite like working where I am, but I don’t love it. And I’m not going to win the lottery all of a sudden.

“So I need to find a job that I would like doing, that I would want to go to every day. So I thought, I’ll open a bookshop. And it’s worked out quite well.”

At the moment there are no plans for events at the store until the downstairs space is finished being sorted out. Monika will also be at the Bristol Horror Festival next month with a stall.
