“A place where the weird and unusual will be embraced with open arms”

A new witch-themed bookshop and venue is opening in Bristol this summer.

Monika Killer is bringing the The Haunted Bookshop to Stokes Croft, creating a “safe space” for witches.

The shop will sell all kinds of occult items, gifts and books alongside hot drinks such as pumpkin lattes, with plans to sell alcohol in the future.

Other items at the shop, in the former Shambarber premises, will include brooms, ritual candles, crystals, herbs and smudge sticks.

Monika, who’s originally from Lithuania but now lives in Bristol, says she will use female-owned wholesalers and mostly focus on female authors.

The 29-year-old wrote on the bookshop’s website: “Now that I'm approaching my 30s, I've come to comprehend that being the black sheep and standing out from the crowd is far more fun than blending in.

“I am currently working on fulfilling my lifelong delusion/dream of opening The Haunted Bookshop, a shop and venue specialising in horror, fantasy, folklore, and other books.

“A place where guilty pleasures will be encouraged (calling all the spicy faeries!) and the weird and unusual embraced with open arms.”

Monika hopes to open The Haunted Bookshop in mid-July.
