South Gloucestershire road closures: more than a dozen for motorists to avoid this week

South Gloucestershire's motorists will have 13 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

South Gloucestershire's motorists will have 13 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And four of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing waits of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that four closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

M48, from 2am July 14 2022 to 6am January 26 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 eastbound, Severn Bridge lane closure 24 / seven for main cable inspection and bridge maintenance works.

M48, from 7pm June 22 2022 to 6am February 2 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, Severn Bridge - Lane closure for main cable inspection works.

M48, from 7pm May 11 2022 to 6am April 7 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M4 Prince of Wales bridge.

M4, from 10pm May 23 2022 to 6am April 14 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 to 23 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

And a further nine closures will begin over the next seven days:

M4, from 9am December 12 to 4pm December 13, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 - hard shoulder only for electrical works.

M4, from 9pm December 12 to 6am December 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 21 to 19 - lane closure for SMART motorway upgrade works.

M4, from 10pm December 12 to 6am December 17, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, closed for survey works. Diversion via M5 southbound to junction 16, to turn and return northbound.

M4, from 9pm December 13 to 6am December 14, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 Prince of Wales Bridge eastbound, carriageway closed overnight for bridge maintenance. Includes westbound, safety lane closure. Diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

M5, from 10pm December 13 to 6am December 14, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 between exit and entry slip roads carriageway closure for electrical works, diversion off exit slip road and back on to entry slip road.

M5, from 10pm December 14 to 6am December 15, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16 - lane closure for electrical works.

M4, from 10pm December 14 to 6am December 15, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, entry slip road from M5 southbound, closed for electrical works, diversion via M4 westbound, exit, junction 22, turn to join M4 eastbound to continue journey.

M5, from 9pm December 16 to 6am December 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to 15 - lane closure for safety barrier repairs.

M5, from 10pm December 19 to 6am December 20, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 18 entry slip road from Avonmouth closed for barrier repairs. Diversion via Portway Roundabout, M5 northbound to junction 17, to turn and return southbound.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
