South Gloucestershire road closures: more than a dozen for motorists to avoid this week

South Gloucestershire's motorists will have 18 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And four of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing holdups of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that four closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M48, from 2am July 14 to 6am November 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 eastbound, Severn Bridge lane closure 24 / seven for main cable inspection and bridge maintenance works.

• M48, from 7pm June 22 2022 to 6am January 23 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, Severn Bridge - Lane closure for main cable inspection works.

• M48, from 7pm May 11 2022 to 6am April 7 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M4 Prince of Wales bridge.

• M4, from 10pm May 23 2022 to 6am April 14 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 to 23 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

And a further 14 closures will begin over the next seven days:

• M4, from 10pm November 7 to 6am November 12, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 entry slip road to M5 southbound, junction 15 - lane closures for SMART motorway upgrade.

• M48, from 7pm November 9 to 6am November 11, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M4 Prince of Wales bridge.

• M5, from 8pm November 9 to 6am November 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 both directions, junction 15 to 14 - lane closure for barrier/fence safety repairs.

• M49, from 10pm November 9 to 6am November 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M49 southbound, junction 22 M4 to junction 18 M5 - lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 8pm November 10 to 6am November 11, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 both directions, junction 18 to 19 - lane closures for barrier/fence safety repairs.

• M4, from 10pm November 10 to 6am November 11, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to 19 lane closure for electrical works.

• A46, from 9pm November 14 to 5am November 17, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A46 northbound and southbound, Cold Ashton roundabout to M4, junction 18 carriageway closed for maintenance, *diversion A420, A4174, A432, A46 and vice versa.

• M4, from 9pm November 14 to 6am November 16, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, Prince of Wales Bridge carriageway closed overnight for bridge maintenance. Includes westbound, safety lane closure. Diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

• M5, from 10pm November 14 to 6am November 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 Both Directions, junction 14 to junction 18 IPV for drainage works, Avoiding all other works.

• M4, from 10pm November 16 to 6am November 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 19 to 18 lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 8am to 6pm on November 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 both directions M4, junction 18 to junction 19 - lane closure for inspection/surveys.

• M4, from 8pm November 21 to 6am November 23, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 18a to 17 - carriageway closure for carriageway repairs, diversion via M49, M4, M5.

• M5, from 8pm November 21 to 6am December 3, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 both directions, junction 14 lane closure / traffic lights installed by South Gloucestershire for VRS repairs. No access to northbound, entry slip from B4509 eastbound, - traffic diverted to Wotton Road roundabout and back.

• M32, from 10pm November 21 to 5am November 23, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 - carriageway closure for drainage work, diversion following solid triangle, exit M32 at, junction 1, A4174, A38, join M5 northbound, at, junction 16, join M4 westbound.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
