South Gloucestershire road closures: more than a dozen for motorists to avoid this week

South Gloucestershire's motorists will have 16 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And two of them are expected to cause delays of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that five closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M4, from 9pm October 17 to 6am October 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 19 to 18 - Hard Shoulder Running for Structure - maintenance.

• M48, from 2am July 14 to 6am November 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 eastbound, Severn Bridge lane closure 24 / seven for main cable inspection and bridge maintenance works.

• M48, from 7pm June 22 2022 to 6am January 23 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, Severn Bridge - Lane closure for main cable inspection works.

• M48, from 7pm May 11 2022 to 6am April 7 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M4 Prince of Wales bridge.

• M4, from 10pm May 23 2022 to 6am April 14 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 to 23 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

And a further 11 closures will begin over the next seven days:

• M48, from 9pm October 18 to 6am October 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 eastbound, junction 1 to M4, junction 21 lane closure for structure inspection.

• M32, from 10pm October 20 to 6am October 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 northbound, junction 1 exit slip, lane closure for horticultural works.

• M5, from 9pm October 24 to 6am October 29, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16 - lane closure for SMART motorway upgrade works.

• M4, from 9pm October 24 to 6am October 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 both directions, junction 19 to 20 - lane closure for SMART motorway upgrade works.

• M4, from 10pm October 24 to 6am October 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 22 entry slip road closed for horticulture, diversion M49 southbound to M5, junction 18a, M5 North to M4.

• M5, from 9pm October 25 to 6am October 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 both directions, junction 16 to 17 - lane closure for SMART motorway upgrade works.

• M4, from 10pm October 25 to 6am October 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 exit Slip closure for tree cutting, diversion via M4, junction 23a and return.

• M4, from 10pm October 25 to 6am October 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 to 19 - lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 10pm October 25 to 6am October 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to 19 lane closure for electrical works.

• A46, from 10pm October 26 to 6am October 27, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to 19 closed for electrical works. Diversion via B4465, A4174, M32 to junction 19.

• A46, from 10pm October 27 to 6am October 28, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 18 to junction 17 carriageway closure for electrical works, diversion via A46, A420, A350 to junction 17. Solid Square diversion route.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
