South Gloucestershire road closures: more than a dozen for motorists to avoid this week

South Gloucestershire's motorists will have 18 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And four of them are expected to cause delays of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that four closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

M48, from 2am July 14 to 6am November 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 eastbound, Severn Bridge lane closure 24 / seven for main cable inspection and bridge maintenance works.

M48, from 7pm June 22 2022 to 6am January 23 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, Severn Bridge - Lane closure for main cable inspection works.

M48, from 7pm May 11 2022 to 6am April 7 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M4 Prince of Wales bridge.

M4, from 10pm May 23 2022 to 6am April 14 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 to 23 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

And a further 14 closures will begin over the next seven days:

M32, from 10pm August 30 to 6am September 1, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 Both Directions M4, junction 19 to M32, junction 2 IPV for drainage works, Avoiding all other works.

A4, from 11pm August 30 to 6am September 1, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 to 22 carriageway closed for white lining works. Diversion via M5 southbound to junction 18 and M49 northbound to M4, junction 22. Contingency diversion route for M5 northbound, traffic via M4 eastbound to junction 19, M32 southbound, turn and return northbound, at, junction 1, M4 westbound to re-join main diversion route.

M4, from 8pm September 1 to 6am September 2, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 exit slip roads to the M5 closed for white lining works. Diversion via M4 westbound to junction 22, to turn and return eastbound.

M32, from 9pm September 1 to 5am September 2, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 southbound, junction 1 to 2 - lane closure for electrical works.

M4, from 10pm September 1 to 6am September 2, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 21 to 20 lane closure, including on the exit slip to the M5 northbound, for white lining works.

M5, from 8pm September 5 to 6am September 6, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 16 to 17 - lane closures for SMART motorway improvements.

M5, from 8pm September 5 to 6am September 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 18 to 17 lane closures including lane closure on, junction 17 northbound, entry slip road for SMART motorway improvements.

M48, from 10pm September 5 to 6am September 7, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 both directions, junction 1 to M4, junction 21 - lane closures for central reservation works.

M32, from 9pm September 7 to 6am September 8, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 entry and exit slip roads closed for white lining works. Includes lane closures on the main carriageway. Entry slip diversion via M4 eastbound to junction 17, to turn and return westbound. Exit slip diversion via M4 westbound to junction 19, M32 southbound to junction 1 turn and return northbound, taking the M4 eastbound to junction 18.

M48, from 7pm September 9 to 6am September 12, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M48 eastbound, Severn Bridge carriageway closed 24 / seven for main cable inspections and bridge maintenance works. *diversion via M4 Prince of Wales Bridge.

M4, from 8pm September 12 to 6am September 13, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 southbound to M4 eastbound, slip closed for electrical works, diversion via M4, junction 22, U-Turn to join M4 eastbound.

M4, from 9pm September 12 to 6am September 14, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 Prince of Wales Bridge eastbound, carriageway closed overnight for bridge maintenance. Includes westbound, safety lane closure. *diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
