South Gloucestershire road closures: dozens of for motorists to avoid this week

South Gloucestershire's motorists will have 26 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And nine of them are expected to cause delays of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that five closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M5, from 8pm November 21 to 6am December 8, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 both directions, junction 14 lane closure / traffic lights installed by South Gloucestershire for VRS repairs. No access to northbound, entry slip from B4509 eastbound, - traffic diverted to Wotton Road roundabout and back.

• M48, from 2am July 14 2022 to 6am January 26 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 eastbound, Severn Bridge lane closure 24 / seven for main cable inspection and bridge maintenance works.

• M48, from 7pm June 22 2022 to 6am February 2 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, Severn Bridge - Lane closure for main cable inspection works.

• M48, from 7pm May 11 2022 to 6am April 7 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M4 Prince of Wales bridge.

• M4, from 10pm May 23 2022 to 6am April 14 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 to 23 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

And a further 21 closures will begin over the next seven days:

• M4, from 8am December 5 to 4pm December 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 hard shoulder closure for vegetation works.

• M48, from 8pm December 5 to 6am December 6, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 eastbound, junction 1 lane closure for barrier repairs.

• M4, from 9pm December 5 to 6am December 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to 20 - lane closure for SMART motorway upgrade works.

• M32, from 10pm December 5 to 6am December 6, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 15 to junction 17 carriageway closures for Central Reservation works, diversion M4 eastbound to junction 19, M32, junction 1 A4174. A38, Hayes Way, Merlin Way, Alternative M4 westbound to junction 22, southbound, on M49.

• M32, from 10pm December 6 to 6am December 7, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 16 to junction 17 carriageway closures for Central Reservation Work. Exit slip road from M4 eastbound to M5 southbound, closed, diversion for M5 via A38, Hayes Way and Merlin Road, diversion for M4 to M5 slip road via M32, junction 1 and return.

• M5, from 10pm December 6 to 6am December 7, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 both directions, junction 13 to 14 - lane closure for electrical works.

• M5, from 10pm December 6 to 6am December 7, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 18 entry slip from Avonmouth closed. No direct access to M5, junction 18 from St Brendan's Roundabout. For gantry inspections. Northbound, traffic diverted via alternative link road from Portway Roundabout. Southbound, traffic diverted via alternative link road from Portway Roundabout, M5 northbound to junction 17 to turn and return southbound.

• M4, from 9pm December 7 to 6am December 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 21 to 19 - lane closure for SMART motorway upgrade works.

• M32, from 10pm December 7 to 6am December 9, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 15 carriageway closures for Central Reservation Work, diversion: Merlin Road and Hayes Way to A38, South to A4174, East to M32, junction 1, North to M4, West to M5.

• M5, from 8pm December 8 to 6am December 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to junction 15 - lane closure for barrier/fence safety repairs.

• M4, from 10pm December 8 to 6am December 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to junction 19 lane closure for electrical work.

• M4, from 9pm December 9 to 6am December 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 both directions, junction 17 to 18 - lane closure for safety barrier repairs.

• M4, from 9am December 12 to 4pm December 13, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 - hard shoulder only for electrical works.

• M4, from 9pm December 12 to 6am December 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 21 to 19 - lane closure for SMART motorway upgrade works.

• M4, from 10pm December 12 to 6am December 17, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, closed for survey works. Diversion via M5 southbound to junction 16, to turn and return northbound.

• M4, from 9pm December 13 to 6am December 14, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 Prince of Wales Bridge eastbound, carriageway closed overnight for bridge maintenance. Includes westbound, safety lane closure. Diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

• M5, from 10pm December 13 to 6am December 14, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 between exit and entry slip roads carriageway closure for electrical works, diversion off exit slip road and back on to entry slip road.

• M5, from 10pm December 14 to 6am December 15, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16 - lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 10pm December 14 to 6am December 15, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, entry slip road from M5 southbound, closed for electrical works, diversion via M4 westbound, exit, junction 22, turn to join M4 eastbound to continue journey.

• M5, from 10pm December 19 to 6am December 20, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 18 entry slip road from Avonmouth closed for barrier repairs. Diversion via Portway Roundabout, M5 northbound to junction 17, to turn and return southbound.

• M4, from 10pm December 19 to 6am December 20, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 16 exit slip road closed for SMART motorway improvements, diversion via M4 westbound, turn, junction 22, join M4 eastbound, exit, junction 20, M5 southbound to junction 16.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
