South Gloucestershire road closures: dozens of for motorists to avoid this week

South Gloucestershire's motorists will have 24 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And two of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing waits of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that four closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M48, from 2am July 14 to 6am November 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 eastbound, Severn Bridge lane closure 24 / seven for main cable inspection and bridge maintenance works.

• M48, from 7pm June 22 2022 to 6am January 23 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, Severn Bridge - Lane closure for main cable inspection works.

• M48, from 7pm May 11 2022 to 6am April 7 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M4 Prince of Wales bridge.

• M4, from 10pm May 23 2022 to 6am April 14 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 to 23 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

And a further 20 closures will begin over the next seven days:

• M32, from 9.30am to 3pm on August 1, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 northbound, junction 1 between exit and entry slip roads Hard Shoulder closure for Cable surveys.

• M49, from 9pm August 2 to 6am August 6, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M49 northbound, M5, junction 18a to M4, junction 22 Lane closure for barrier Repair.

• M5, from 11pm August 3 to 5am August 4, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 16 Lane closure for Electrical Work.

• M32, from 9.30am to 3pm on August 4, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 southbound, M4, junction 19 to M32, junction 1 Hard Shoulder Lane closure for Electrical works.

• M4, from 9pm August 4 to 6am August 5, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to 19 - Lane closure for Electrical works.

• M5, from 9pm August 8 to 5am August 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 15 to 14 - lane closure for horticulture works.

• M4, from 9pm August 8 to 6am August 10, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 Prince of Wales Bridge eastbound, carriageway closed overnight for bridge maintenance. Includes westbound, safety lane closure. Diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

• M4, from 10pm August 8 to 6am August 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to 19 lane closure for structure maintenance.

• A46, from 10pm August 8 to 6am August 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A46 northbound, Tormarton to M4 J18 - Lane closure for Horticulture (Cutting and Planting) works.

• M5, from 9pm August 9 to 6am August 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16 lane closure for electrical works.

• M32, from 10pm August 9 to 6am August 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 northbound and southbound, junction 2 to junction 1 - Lane closure for Structure maintenance works.

• M32, from 10pm August 9 to 6am August 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 exit Slip closure and Hard Shoulder closure for drainage Work. Diversion via M5, junction 16, A38 and A4174 to rejoin M32, junction 1.

• M4, from 11pm August 10 to 5am August 11, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 - lane closures for electrical works.

• M4, from 9pm August 11 to 5am August 12, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 15 entry slip roads from M4, junction 20 closed. Includes M5 southbound, junction 16 exit slip road closed, diversion via M5 northbound, turn, junction 14, re-join M5 southbound. To exit at, junction 16, M5 continue to junction 17, turn and re-join M5 northbound, exit, junction 16.

• M4, from 10pm August 11 to 5am August 12, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 to junction 19 Lane closure for Electrical works.

• M4, from 11pm August 12 to 6am August 16, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 17 to 18 lane closures for white lining works.

• M32, from 9am August 15 to 3pm August 18, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 both directions, junction 1 lane closure on exit slips for street cleansing on behalf of South Gloucestershire.

• M4, from 9pm August 15 to 6am August 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 both directions, junction 18 to19 lane closures for central reservation works.

• M32, from 9pm August 15 to 6am August 16, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 entry and exit slip roads closed for white lining works. Exit slip diversion via M4 westbound to junction 19, M32 southbound to junction 1, turn and return northbound, M4 eastbound to junction 18. Entry slip diversion via M4 eastbound to junction 17, to turn and return westbound.

• M4, from 10pm August 15 to 6am August 16, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M49 northbound, junction 18, M5 to junction 22, M4 - carriageway closure for central reservation works, diversion via M5, M4.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
