South Gloucestershire road closures: dozens for motorists to avoid over the next fortnight

South Gloucestershire's motorists will have 31 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And six of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing waits of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that nine closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M5, from 8pm January 2 to 6am January 20, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to 15 - lane closures for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M5, from 6am October 8 2023 to 6am January 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to junction 17 - narrow lanes in place including southbound, contra-flow lane running on northbound, carriageway for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M5, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am January 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 14 - offside narrow lanes in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M4, from 5am March 17 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

• M5, from 5am March 25 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16 - narrow lanes for SMART motorway improvements.

• M4, from 5am March 11 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 to 19 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

• M4, from midnight, August 30 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to junction 17 including access roads from M4 and M5, junction 16 exit slip road - 50mph speed restriction in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M4, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 14 including access roads from M4 and M5, junction 17 and junction 16 entry slip roads - 50mph speed restriction in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M4, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, junction 15 - 24hr lane closure for bridge deck refurbishment works.

And a further 22 closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• M49, from 9am to 4pm on January 15, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M49 both directions Avonmouth, junction hard shoulder closures for electrical works.

• M32, from 8pm January 15 to 6am January 17, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 carriageway closure for SMART motorway improvements, diversion via M32 exit, junction 1, A4174, A38, join M5 northbound, at, junction 16, re-join M4.

• M5, from 8pm January 15 to 6am January 20, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 16 exit slip road - single lane running for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M4, from 8pm January 15 to 6am January 17, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 16 exit slip road closed for SMART motorway improvements, diversion via M5 southbound, exit, junction 17, turn and re-join M5 northbound, exit, junction 16.

• M4, from 9pm January 15 to 6am January 17, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 23 to 22 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for bridge maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn bridge.

• A46, from 8pm January 16 to 6am January 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A46 Cold Ashton, multiway traffic lights for surveys.

• A46, from 8pm January 16 to 6am January 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 18 exit slip, lane closure for surveys.

• M32, from 9pm January 16 to 5am January 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 southbound, junction 1 to 2 lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 9pm January 17 to 6am January 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 23 to 22 Prince of Wales Bridge - lane closure for structure maintenance.

• M49, from 9pm January 17 to 6am January 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M49 northbound, lane closure for structure maintenance.

• M4, from 10pm January 17 to 6am January 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 to 23 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

• M4, from 8pm January 18 to 6am January 22, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 - single lane running for SMART motorway improvements.

• A46, from 8pm January 18 to 6am January 19, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 19 to 18 - carriageway closure for structure inspection, diversion via M32, exit, junction 1, A4174, A420, A46 to re-join M4 at, junction 18.

• A46, from 8pm January 18 to 6am January 19, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to 19 - carriageway closure for structure inspection, diversion via A46, A420, A4174, M32 to re-join M4 at, junction 19.

• M49, from 9pm January 18 to 6am January 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M49 southbound, lane closure for electrical works.

• M32, from 8pm January 20 to 6am January 27, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to 17 - carriageway closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via A38. For access to M5 southbound, follow A38, Hayes Way, Merlin Road, re-join M5, For access to M4 follow A38, A4174, M32, M4.

• M4, from 8pm January 22 to 6am January 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22, lane closure for structure maintenance.

• M4, from 9pm January 24 to 5am January 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 to junction 23 lane closure for electrical works.

• M48, from 10pm January 24 to 6am January 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, M4, junction 21 to junction 1 lane closure for drainage.

• A46, from 9pm January 25 to 6am January 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 exit slip lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 8pm January 26 to 6am January 27, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 17 to 18, lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 9pm January 29 to 6am January 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 to 23 Prince of Wales Bridge - lane closures for bridge maintenance.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
