South Gloucestershire road closures: dozens for motorists to avoid over the next fortnight

South Gloucestershire's motorists will have 26 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And three of them are expected to cause delays of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that five closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M4, from 9pm August 14 to 6am September 8, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 Both Directions, junction 18 to junction 19 lane closures for bridge construction.

• M32, from midnight, March 26 to 5am November 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32, junction 1 to M4, junction 19 and M4, junction 19 to 23 used by GWR Railway Replacement Buses for Bristol Parkway to Newport route.

• M5, from 5am March 25 to 5am November 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16 - narrow lanes for SMART motorway improvements.

• M4, from 5am March 17 2023 to 5am January 21 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

• M4, from 5am March 11 2023 to 5am January 21 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 to 19 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

And a further 21 closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• M32, from 8pm August 29 to 6am September 1, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to 17 - carriageway closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via A38. For access to M5 southbound, follow A38, Hayes Way, Merlin Road, re-join M5, For access to M4 follow A38, A4174, M32, M4.

• M32, from 8pm August 29 to 6am September 4, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 14 - carriageway closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion for M5 traffic via Merlin Road, Hayes Way, A38 northbound, M5. Diversion for M4 traffic via A38 southbound, A4174, M32, M4.

• M4, from 8pm August 29 to 6am September 4, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, junction 15 closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M5 southbound, exit, junction 16, A38 northbound, M5.

• M4, from 8pm August 29 to 6am September 4, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 exit slip roads to M5, junction 15 closures for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M4 westbound, exit, junction 22 and return M4 eastbound to junction 20.

• M4, from midnight, August 30 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to junction 17 including access roads from M4 and M5, junction 16 exit slip road - 50mph speed restriction in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M5, from midnight, August 30 to 6am October 8, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to junction 17 - offside narrow lanes in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M4, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 14 including access roads from M4 and M5, junction 17 and junction 16 entry slip roads - 50mph speed restriction in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M5, from midnight, August 31 to 6am October 7, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 14 - offside narrow lanes in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M4, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, junction 15 - 24hr lane closure for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M4, from 9pm September 1 to 6am September 2, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, junction 15 closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M5 southbound, exit, junction 16, A38 northbound, M5.

• M32, from 9pm September 1 to 6am September 2, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to 17 - carriageway closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via A38. For access to M5 southbound, follow A38, Hayes Way, Merlin Road, re-join M5, For access to M4 follow A38, A4174, M32, M4.

• M4, from 9pm September 1 to 6am September 2, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 exit slip roads to M5, junction 15 closures for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M4 westbound, exit, junction 22 and return M4 eastbound to junction 20.

• M32, from 9pm September 1 to 6am September 2, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 14 - carriageway closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion for M5 traffic via Merlin Road, Hayes Way, A38 northbound, M5. Diversion for M4 traffic via A38 southbound, A4174, M32, M4.

• M48, from 10pm September 1 to 6am September 2, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 eastbound, junction 1 entry slip road closure for horticulture works, diversion via M48, exit, junction 2, turn to join M48 eastbound.

• M48, from 10pm September 1 to 6am September 2, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 exit slip road closure for horticulture works, diversion via M48, exit, junction 2, turn to join M48 eastbound to junction 1.

• M32, from 9.30am September 4 to 3pm September 7, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 both directions, junction 1 exit slips - lane closures for South Gloucestershire Council litter picking works.

• M5, from 9pm September 4 to 6am September 6, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 both directions, junction 14, lane closure / traffic lights for electrical works.

• M48, from 7pm September 6 to 6am September 7, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge carriageway closed for structure maintenance works. Diversion via M4 Prince of Wales Bridge.

• M4, from 9pm September 7 to 6am September 9, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 18 to junction 17 carriageway closure for horticulture, diversion at, junction 18, M49 northbound, M4 J22 eastbound to M5, junction 15.

• M4, from 9pm September 11 to 6am September 13, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 23 to 22 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for bridge maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn bridge.

• M32, from 9pm September 11 to 6am September 12, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 northbound, junction 1 exit slip road lane closure for horticultural works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
