South Gloucestershire road closures: almost two dozen for motorists to avoid this week

South Gloucestershire's motorists will have 23 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And six of them are expected to cause delays of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that four closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M48, from 2am July 14 to 6am November 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 eastbound, Severn Bridge lane closure 24 / seven for main cable inspection and bridge maintenance works.

• M48, from 7pm June 22 2022 to 6am January 23 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, Severn Bridge - Lane closure for main cable inspection works.

• M48, from 7pm May 11 2022 to 6am April 7 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M4 Prince of Wales bridge.

• M4, from 10pm May 23 2022 to 6am April 14 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 to 23 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

And a further 19 closures will begin over the next seven days:

• M32, from 8pm October 24 to 6am October 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4, junction 19 lane closures on both exit slips and M32 southbound, for barrier repairs.

• M4, from 9pm October 24 to 6am October 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 both directions, junction 19 to 20 - lane closure for SMART motorway upgrade works.

• M5, from 9pm October 24 to 6am October 29, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16 - lane closure for SMART motorway upgrade works.

• M5, from 9pm October 25 to 6am October 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 both directions, junction 16 to 17 - lane closure for SMART motorway upgrade works.

• M4, from 10pm October 25 to 6am October 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 to 19 - lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 10pm October 25 to 6am October 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to 19 lane closure for electrical works.

• A46, from 10pm October 26 to 6am October 27, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to 19 closed for electrical works. Diversion via B4465, A4174, M32 to junction 19.

• M4, from 8pm October 27 to 6am October 28, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 21 (M4) to M48, junction 2 - carriageway closure, diversion via M4 Prince of Wales Bridge. For A403 traffic, exit at, junction 23a, turn to join M4 eastbound, M48, exit, junction 2.

• M5, from 9pm October 31 to 6am November 2, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 Both Directions, junction 14 to junction 15 lane closures for barrier repair.

• M32, from 10pm November 2 to 6am November 3, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 southbound, junction 1 exit slip road closure for maintenance works, diversion via M32 southbound to junction 2 and return.

• M4, from 10pm November 2 to 6am November 3, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 10pm November 2 to 6am November 3, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M49 southbound, M4, junction 22 to M5, junction 18a carriageway closure for carriageway Repair, diversion M4 eastbound to junction 20, M5 southbound.

• M4, from 8pm November 3 to 6am November 4, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 lane closure for electrical works.

• M49, from 9pm November 3 to 6am November 4, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M49 northbound, M5, junction 18a to M4, junction 22 carriageway closure for carriageway Repair, diversion M5 northbound to junction 15, M4 westbound.

• M5, from 10pm November 3 to 6am November 4, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 16 - Lane closure for Electrical works.

• M5, from 10pm November 3 to 6am November 4, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 15 exit slip road to M4 Both Directions Closed, diversion to M5, junction 16 and Return North to junction 15.

• M32, from 10pm November 4 to 6am November 5, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 exit Slip closure for drainage, diversion M4 eastbound to junction 19, southbound to M32, junction 1, u-turn back to M4 westbound.

• M4, from 10pm November 7 to 5am November 12, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 both directions entry slip road from M4 westbound, closed for SMART motorway improvements, *diversion via M4 westbound, exit, junction 22, turn to re-join M4 eastbound, enter M5 at, junction 20, Alternatively M5 southbound, traffic to join M49 southbound, at, junction 22 and join M5 at, junction 18a.

• M4, from 10pm November 7 to 5am November 12, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 16 exit slip road closed for SMART motorway improvements, *diversion via M5 southbound, exit, junction 17, turn and re-join M5 northbound, exit, junction 16.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
