South Gloucestershire road closures: almost two dozen for motorists to avoid this week

South Gloucestershire's motorists will have 23 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And eight of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing holdups of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that four closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M5, from 8am July 4 to 4pm July 15, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5, junction 14 lane closures northbound and southbound, exit slip for resurfacing works.

• M48, from 7pm June 22 2022 to 6am January 23 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, Severn Bridge - Lane closure for main cable inspection works.

• M48, from 7pm May 11 2022 to 6am April 7 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M4 Prince of Wales bridge.

• M4, from 10pm May 23 2022 to 6am April 14 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 to 23 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

And a further 19 closures will begin over the next seven days:

• M4, from 9pm July 11 to 6am July 14, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to junction 19 Lane closure for barrier Repair.

• M4, from 9pm July 11 to 6am July 13, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 Prince of Wales Bridge eastbound, carriageway closed overnight for bridge maintenance. Includes westbound, safety lane closure. Diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

• M4, from 10pm July 11 to 6am July 12, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20, lane closure for Network Rail bridge inspection.

• M4, from 10pm July 12 to 6am July 13, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound and westbound, junction 20 to 19, lane closure for Network Rail bridge inspection.

• M48, from 7pm July 13 to 6am July 14, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M48 eastbound, Severn Bridge carriageway closed for main cable inspections and bridge maintenance works. Diversion via M4 Prince of Wales Bridge.

• M48, from 7pm to 9pm on July 13, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M48 westbound, Severn Bridge carriageway closed for main cable inspection and other maintenance works. Diversion via M4 Prince of Wales Bridge.

• M5, from 8pm July 13 to 6am July 14, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16 lane closure for electrical works.

• M48, from 2am July 14 to 6am November 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 eastbound, Severn Bridge lane closure 24 / seven for main cable inspection and bridge maintenance works.

• M5, from 8pm July 14 to 6am July 15, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 16 to 17 lane closure for electrical works.

• M49, from 9pm July 14 to 6am July 15, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M49 southbound, M4, junction 22 to Holloway Road Bridge lane closure for barrier repairs.

• M4, from 9pm July 14 to 6am July 15, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 both directions, junction 17 - 18 lane closures for barrier repairs.

• M4, from 9pm July 18 to 6am July 20, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M48 westbound, M4, junction 20 to M48, junction 1 carriageway closure including closure of M48, junction 1 westbound, entry slip road - for road markings renewal, diversion via M4 westbound, exit, junction 23a, turn and re-join M4 eastbound, join M48 at, junction 23 to junction 1, diversion for M48 entry slip road closure via M4 eastbound, M5 southbound, exit, junction 16, turn and re-join M5 northbound, M4 westbound and follow main diversion route.

• M4, from 10pm July 18 to 6am July 19, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to junction 19 lane closure and junction 19 exit slip closure for Horticulture works. Diversion via M5, junction 16, A38, A4174.

• M4, from 9pm July 19 to 5am July 20, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 19 to junction 18 Lane closure for Electrical Work.

• M4, from 9pm July 20 to 5am July 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 19 to 18 - Lane closure for Electrical works.

• M4, from 10pm July 20 to 6am July 21, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 exit slip closed for general maintenance. Diversion via, junction 23 A and return.

• A4, from 10pm July 21 to 6am July 22, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 22 entry slip closed for electrical works. Diversion via M49 south to St. Brendans roundabout, M5 north to junction 15.

• M4, from 10pm July 22 to 6am July 23, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 southbound to M4 eastbound, slip closed for electrical works, diversion via M4, junction 22, U-Turn to join M4 eastbound.

• M32, from 10pm July 24 to 6am July 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 19 entry slip road closure for resurfacing, diversion via M4 westbound to junction 20, M5 southbound to junction 16, return M5 northbound to junction 15 to join M4 eastbound.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
