South Gloucestershire road closures: almost two dozen for motorists to avoid over the next fortnight

South Gloucestershire's motorists will have 23 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

South Gloucestershire's motorists will have 23 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And five of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing waits of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that eight closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

M4, from 5am March 17 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

M5, from 5am March 25 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16 - narrow lanes for SMART motorway improvements.

M4, from 5am March 11 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 to 19 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

M5, from midnight, January 23 to 6am May 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to junction 17 - offside narrow lanes in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

M5, from midnight, January 28 to 6am May 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 14 - narrow lanes in place including northbound, contra-flow lane running on southbound, carriageway for bridge deck refurbishment works.

M4, from midnight, August 30 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to junction 17 including access roads from M4 and M5, junction 16 exit slip road - 50mph speed restriction in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

M4, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 14 including access roads from M4 and M5, junction 17 and junction 16 entry slip roads - 50mph speed restriction in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

M4, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, junction 15 - 24hr lane closure for bridge deck refurbishment works.

And a further 15 closures will begin over the next two weeks:

A46, from 7pm February 19 to 4pm February 20, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A46 Cold Ashton, traffic lights installed by BRISTOL WATERWORKS COMPANY.

M32, from 8pm February 19 to 6am February 24, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 carriageway closure for SMART motorway improvements, diversion via M32 exit, junction 1, A4174, A38, join M5 northbound, at, junction 16, re-join M4.

M4, from 9pm February 19 to 5am February 24, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 16 exit slip road closed for SMART motorway improvements, diversion via M5 southbound, exit, junction 17, turn and re-join M5 northbound, exit, junction 16.

M49, from 10pm February 19 to 6am February 20, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M49 northbound, M5, junction 18a to M4, junction 22 carriageway closure for drainage, diversion M5 northbound to junction 15, M4 West.

M4, from 10pm February 19 to 6am February 20, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 exit and entry slip road closures for drainage, exit Slip diversion via M4, junction 23 and return, entry Slip to coincide with closure of M49 northbound.

M4, from 8pm February 22 to 6am February 23, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 entry slip road to M5 southbound, junction 15 closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M5 northbound, exit, junction 14, join M5 southbound.

A46, from midnight, February 26 to 11.59pm March 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A46, junction 18 to Cold Ashton used as a diversion for South Gloucestershire Council closure of Tolldown Road and Marshfield Road.

M4, from 9am February 26 to 4pm February 27, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 both directions, junction 18 to 19 hard shoulder closures for electrical works.

M5, from 10pm February 26 to 6am February 27, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 18 to 17, lane closure for carriageway repairs.

M4, from 10pm February 26 to 6am February 27, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 exit slip, lane closure for drainage.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
