Road closures: more than a dozen for South Gloucestershire drivers this week

Drivers in and around South Gloucestershire will have 16 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And six of them are expected to cause delays of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that five closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M32, from 7am September 23 to 7pm September 27, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 Both Directions, junction 1 to junction 2 Hard Shoulder closures for inspections.

• M48, from 2am July 14 to 6am November 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 eastbound, Severn Bridge lane closure 24 / seven for main cable inspection and bridge maintenance works.

• M48, from 7pm June 22 2022 to 6am January 23 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, Severn Bridge - Lane closure for main cable inspection works.

• M48, from 7pm May 11 2022 to 6am April 7 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M4 Prince of Wales bridge.

• M4, from 10pm May 23 2022 to 6am April 14 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 to 23 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

And a further 11 closures will begin over the next seven days:

• M5, from 9pm September 26 to 6am September 27, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 entry slip lane closure for barrier repairs.

• M4, from 10pm September 26 to 6am September 29, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 entry slip road from M5 southbound, junction 15 closed, diversion via M4 westbound, exit, junction 22, turn and re-join M4 eastbound.

• M4, from 10pm September 26 to 6am September 29, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 entry slip road from M5 northbound, junction 15 closed for SMART motorway improvement works, diversion via M4 westbound, exit, junction 22, turn and re-join M4 eastbound.

• M4, from 9pm September 28 to 6am October 1, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 - lane closure for SMART motorway upgrade work.

• M5, from 9pm September 29 to 6am September 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 both directions, junction 14 to15 lane closures for barrier repairs.

• M4, from 10pm September 29 to 6am September 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to junction 20 - Lane closure for Electrical works.

• M48, from 7pm September 30 to 6am October 3, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M48 westbound, Severn Bridge carriageway closed 24 / seven for main cable inspection and other maintenance works. *diversion via M4 Prince of Wales Bridge.

• M48, from 7pm September 30 to 6am October 3, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M48 eastbound, Severn Bridge carriageway closed 24 / seven for main cable inspections and bridge maintenance works. *diversion via M4 Prince of Wales Bridge.

• A46, from 9pm September 30 to 6am October 1, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 exit and entry slip roads closed for white lining works. Includes lane closures on the M4 main carriageway and M32 northbound. Exit slip diversion via M4 westbound to junction 20, M5 southbound to junction 16, turn and return on the M5 northbound, M4 eastbound to junction 19. Entry slip diversion via M4 eastbound to junction 18, to turn and return westbound.

• M5, from 10pm October 3 to 6am October 4, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 16 entry slip road closed for electrical works, *diversion via A38 southbound, Hayes Way, Merlin Road, re-join M5 southbound, at, junction 17.

• M32, from 10pm October 3 to 6am October 7, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M32 both directions, junction 1 to 2 - carriageway closure for central reservation works, diversion southbound, via A4174 westbound, / A38 southbound, / B4469 Muller Road / re-join M32. For northbound, diversion follow above in reverse.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
