Drivers in and around South Gloucestershire will have 14 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

Drivers in and around South Gloucestershire will have 14 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

But motorists will be able to take some solace in the fact that all of them are only expected to cause slight delays, of less than 10 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that eight closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

M5, from 6am October 8 2023 to 6am January 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to junction 17 - narrow lanes in place including southbound, contra-flow lane running on northbound, carriageway for bridge deck refurbishment works.

M5, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am January 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 14 - offside narrow lanes in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

M4, from 5am March 17 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

M5, from 5am March 25 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16 - narrow lanes for SMART motorway improvements.

M4, from 5am March 11 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 to 19 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

M4, from midnight, August 30 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to junction 17 including access roads from M4 and M5, junction 16 exit slip road - 50mph speed restriction in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

M4, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 14 including access roads from M4 and M5, junction 17 and junction 16 entry slip roads - 50mph speed restriction in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

M4, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, junction 15 - 24hr lane closure for bridge deck refurbishment works.

And a further six closures will begin over the next two weeks:

M48, from 8.30am to 7pm on December 27, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4, junction 21 to M48, junction 2 both directions. Plan your journey expecting increased traffic flow for Welsh Grand National at Chepstow racecourse.

M5, from 8pm January 2 to 6am January 20, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to 15 - lane closures for bridge deck refurbishment works.

M4, from 9pm January 2 to 5am January 3, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 19 to 18 lane closure for electrical works.

M32, from 10pm January 4 to 6am January 5, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 both directions, junction 19 exit slip lane closures for barrier repairs.

M5, from 8pm January 5 to 6am January 6, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 both directions, junction 14 to 15 lane closures for barrier repairs.

M4, from 8pm January 8 to 6am January 13, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5, junction 15 - single lane running for bridge deck refurbishment works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
