Road closures: more than a dozen for South Gloucestershire drivers over the next fortnight

Drivers in and around South Gloucestershire will have 19 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

Drivers in and around South Gloucestershire will have 19 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And two of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with motorists facing waits of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that nine closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

M4, from 8pm November 16 to 7am November 21, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 23 to 22 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for South Wales Trunk Road agent works, diversion via M48 Severn bridge.

M5, from midnight, August 31 to 6am November 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 14 - offside narrow lanes in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

M5, from 6am October 8 to 6am November 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to junction 17 - narrow lanes in place including southbound, contra-flow lane running on northbound, carriageway for bridge deck refurbishment works.

M4, from 5am March 17 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

M5, from 5am March 25 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16 - narrow lanes for SMART motorway improvements.

M4, from 5am March 11 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 to 19 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

M4, from midnight, August 30 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to junction 17 including access roads from M4 and M5, junction 16 exit slip road - 50mph speed restriction in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

M4, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 14 including access roads from M4 and M5, junction 17 and junction 16 entry slip roads - 50mph speed restriction in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

M4, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, junction 15 - 24hr lane closure for bridge deck refurbishment works.

And a further 10 closures will begin over the next two weeks:

M32, from 9.30pm November 20 to 6am November 21, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M32 northbound, junction 1 entry slip road closure for electrical works, diversion M32 southbound to junction 2 and return.

M32, from 9.30pm November 21 to 6am November 22, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 southbound, junction 1 entry slip road closure for electrical works, diversion M32 northbound to M4, junction 19 and return.

M32, from 8pm November 23 to 6am November 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 both directions, junction 1 exit slips - lane closures for South Gloucestershire Council barrier works.

M4, from 8pm November 23 to 6am November 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 exit slip roads to M5, junction 15 closed for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M4 westbound, exit, junction 22 and return M4 eastbound to junction 20.

M32, from 8pm November 23 to 6am November 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to 17 - carriageway closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via A38. For access to M5 southbound, follow A38, Hayes Way, Merlin Road, re-join M5, For access to M4 follow A38, A4174, M32, M4.

M4, from 8pm November 23 to 6am November 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, junction 15 closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M5 southbound, exit, junction 16, M5 northbound.

M48, from 10pm November 23 to 6am November 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 carriageway closure between exit and entry slip roads for electrical work, diversion off at exit slip road and re-join at entry slip road.

M4, from 7am to 5pm on November 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 17 to 18, hard shoulder closure for horticultural works.

M4, from 9am November 27 to 3pm December 7, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 17 to 18, lane closure for horticultural works.

A46, from 8pm November 30 to 6am December 1, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A46 both directions M4 J18 to Cold Ashton Roundabout - two-way signals for inspection/surveys.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
