Road closures: dozens of for South Gloucestershire drivers this week

Drivers in and around South Gloucestershire will have 24 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And 10 of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with motorists facing holdups of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that seven closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M48, from 7pm March 17 to 6am March 20, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge carriageway closure 24 / seven for maintenance works. Diversion via M4 Prince of Wales Bridge.

• M32, from 8pm March 16 to 5am March 22, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 carriageway closure for SMART motorway improvements, diversion via M32 exit, junction 1, A4174, A38, join M5 northbound, at, junction 16, re-join M4.

• M48, from 2am July 14 2022 to 6am March 27 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 eastbound, Severn Bridge lane closure 24 / seven for main cable inspection and bridge maintenance works.

• M48, from 7pm May 11 2022 to 6am April 7 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M4 Prince of Wales bridge.

• M4, from 10pm May 23 2022 to 6am April 14 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 to 23 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

• M4, from 5am March 11 to 9pm September 15, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 to 19 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

• M4, from 5am March 17 to 9pm September 15, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

And a further 17 closures will begin over the next seven days:

• M48, from 7pm March 20 to 6am March 21, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge lane closure for maintenance works.

• M5, from 8pm March 20 to 6am March 23, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 15 to 14 lane closures for resurfacing.

• M5, from 8pm March 20 to 6am March 22, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 both directions, junction 14 lane closures for structure inspections.

• M5, from 10pm March 20 to 6am March 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 carriageway closure between exit and entry slip roads for electrical works, diversion via exit and entry slip roads.

• M48, from 7pm March 21 to 6am March 23, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge lane closure for maintenance works.

• M4, from 9pm March 21 to 6am March 22, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 18 to 17 lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 10pm March 21 to 6am March 22, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 Both Directions, junction 20 to junction 21 lane closure for horticulture.

• A46, from 10pm March 22 to 6am March 23, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to 19 carriageway closure for electrical works, diversion via A46, B4465, A432, B4059, A432, A4174 and M32.

• A4, from 9pm March 24 to 5am March 26, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 18a to 16 - carriageway closure for SMART motorway improvements, diversion from, junction 18 via M49, M4 eastbound, M5, diversion from, junction 17 via M5 southbound, exit, junction 18, turn at St Brendan's roundabout, join M5 northbound, M49, M4 eastbound, M5.

• M5, from 5am March 25 to 9pm September 15, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16 - narrow lanes for SMART motorway improvements.

• M32, from midnight, March 26 to 5am November 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32, junction 1 to M4, junction 19 and M4, junction 19 to 23 used by GWR Railway Replacement Buses for Bristol Parkway to Newport route.

• M48, from 7pm March 27 to 6am March 28, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge lane closure for maintenance works.

• M32, from 10pm March 27 to 6am March 28, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M32 Both Directions, junction 1 to M4, junction 19 carriageway closure for litter clearance, diversion via A4174, A38, M5, junction 16 to M4, junction 20 and vice versa.

• M5, from 10pm March 27 to 6am March 28, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to 15 lane closure for electrical works.

• M48, from 7pm March 28 to 6am March 30, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge lane closure for maintenance works.

• M48, from 7pm April 3 to 6am April 4, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge lane closure for maintenance works.

• M5, from 10pm April 3 to 5am April 5, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 entry slip road - lane closure for Vodafone works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
