Road closures: dozens of for South Gloucestershire drivers this week

Drivers in and around South Gloucestershire will have 31 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And 12 of them are expected to cause delays of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that five closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• A46, from 9pm March 4 to 5am March 10, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 19 exit slip road closed for SMART motorway improvements, diversion via M4 eastbound to jct 18, turn to join M4 westbound to jct 19.

• A46, from 8am March 3 to 4pm March 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A46 Both Directions M4, junction 18 to Cold Ashton Rbt multi way traffic lights for horticulture.

• M48, from 2am July 14 2022 to 6am March 27 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 eastbound, Severn Bridge lane closure 24 / seven for main cable inspection and bridge maintenance works.

• M48, from 7pm May 11 2022 to 6am April 7 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M4 Prince of Wales bridge.

• M4, from 10pm May 23 2022 to 6am April 14 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 to 23 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

And a further 26 closures will begin over the next seven days:

• M5, from 8am March 6 to 4pm March 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 exit slip hard shoulder closure for drainage works.

• M4, from 8pm March 6 to 6am March 7, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 both directions, junction 17 to 18 - lane closures for barrier/fence safety repairs.

• M5, from 10pm March 6 to 6am March 7, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16 lane closures for electrical works.

• M4, from 10pm March 6 to 6am March 7, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 22 entry slip closed for drainage. Diversion via M49, M5 north to M4.

• M4, from 9pm March 7 to 6am March 8, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 Both Directions, junction 21 to junction 22 lane closures for electrical work.

• M4, from 10pm March 7 to 6am March 8, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 exit slip closed for drainage. Diversion via M4, exit, junction 23A return M4 eastbound to junction 22.

• M5, from 8pm March 8 to 6am March 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 18a to junction 17 lane closure for structure inspections.

• M4, from 9pm March 8 to 6am March 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 8pm March 9 to 6am March 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 9pm March 9 to 6am March 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 10pm March 9 to 6am March 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 18 entry slip road closure for drainage works, diversion via M49, M4, M5.

• M48, from 9pm March 10 to 5am March 16, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 entry slip road from M5 northbound, junction 15 closed for SMART motorway improvement works, diversion via M4 westbound, M48, exit, junction 1, turn to join M48 eastbound, M4 to junction 20.

• M4, from 9pm March 10 to 5am March 11, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 to 21 - lane closure for SMART motorway improvements.

• M48, from 9pm March 10 to 5am March 16, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 entry slip road from M5 southbound, junction 15 closed for SMART motorway improvements, diversion via M4 westbound, M48, exit, junction 1, turn to join M48 eastbound, M4 to junction 20.

• M32, from 9pm March 10 to 5am March 16, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 to 19 - carriageway closed for SMART motorway improvements, diversion via M5 southbound, exit, junction 16, A38, A4174, M32 northbound, join M4.

• M4, from 5am March 11 to 9pm September 15, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 to 19 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

• M32, from 9pm March 11 to 5am March 16, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 entry slip road closed for SMART motorway upgrade works, diversion via A4174, A38, M5, M4.

• M4, from 9pm March 11 to 5am March 16, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 both directions, junction 15 entry slip road from M4 westbound, junction 20 closed for SMART motorway improvements, diversion via M4 westbound, M48, exit, junction 1, turn and re-join M48 eastbound, M4 to junction 20.

• M4, from 9pm March 13 to 6am March 14, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 both directions, junction 18 to 17 lane closures for electrical works.

• M4, from 10pm March 13 to 6am March 16, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 21 to 22 - Lane closure for Central Reservation works.

• M4, from 9pm March 14 to 6am March 15, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 Prince of Wales Bridge eastbound, carriageway closed overnight for bridge maintenance. Includes westbound, safety lane closure. Diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

• M32, from 9pm March 16 to 5am March 22, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 carriageway closure for SMART motorway improvements, diversion via M32 exit, junction 1, A4174, A38, join M5 northbound, at, junction 16, re-join M4.

• M4, from 9pm March 16 to 5am March 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 19 to 18 - lane closure for SMART motorway improvement work.

• M4, from 5am March 17 to 9pm September 15, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

• M4, from 9pm March 17 to 5am March 19, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 16 exit slip road closed for SMART motorway improvements, diversion via M5 southbound, exit, junction 17, turn and re-join M5 northbound, exit, junction 16.

• M48, from 7pm March 20 to 6am March 21, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge lane closure for maintenance works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
