Road closures: dozens of for South Gloucestershire drivers this week

Drivers in and around South Gloucestershire will have 26 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And one of them is expected to cause major delays – with motorists facing a wait of at least 30 minutes. Another six will cause moderate delays of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that two closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• A4, from 9pm May 13 to 6am May 20, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 22 to 21 carriageway closure for road markings renewal, diversion: M49 to Avonmouth, turn at St.Brendans roundabout, re-join M5 norhtbound, re-join M4 eastbound, at, junction 15.

• M48, from 7pm May 11 2022 to 6am April 7 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 to 2 Severn Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M4 Prince of Wales bridge.

And a further 24 closures will begin over the next seven days:

• A46, from 9pm May 16 to 5am May 19, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A46 both directions Cold Ashton roundabout to M4, junction 18 carriageway closed for maintenance, diversion A420, A4174, A432, A46.

• M32, from 9pm May 17 to 6am May 18, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4, junction 19 to M32, junction 1 - Lane closure for barrier/Fence Safety Repairs.

• M4, from 9pm May 18 to 6am May 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 to junction 19 - Lane closure for barrier Repairs.

• M32, from 9pm May 18 to 6am May 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32, junction 1 to 2 southbound, lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 9pm May 19 to 6am May 20, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4, junction 22 eastbound, exit slip road closed for road markings renewal, diversion: Continue M4 eastbound, M5 southbound, exit J18 to Avonmouth.

• M4, from 9pm May 19 to 6am May 20, severe delays (more than 30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 exit slip road closed leading to lane closures on M4, junction 22 roundabout, diversion - M4 westbound, junction 23 turn, M4 eastbound, M5 southbound, exit, junction 18 to Avonmouth.

• M4, from 9pm May 20 to 6am May 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 19 to17 - lane closures for road markings renewal.

• M4, from 9pm May 23 to 4am May 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to 19 - lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 10pm May 23 to 6am May 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 to 21, lane closure for signs maintenance.

• M4, from 10pm May 23 to 6am May 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4, junction 19 westbound, lane closures for Network Rail bridge inspection.

• M5, from 10pm May 23 to 6am May 24, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 18 entry slip from St. Brendans closed for carriageway repairs, diversion via northbound, entry and junction 17.

• M4, from 10pm May 23 2022 to 6am April 14 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westtbound, junction 22 to 23 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

• M32, from 10pm May 23 to 6am May 24, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 18 entry slip road closed for road markings renewal, diversion: Join M4 westbound, exit at, junction 19, follow M32 southbound, exit, junction 1, turn and re-join M32 northbound, join M4 eastbound.

• M5, from 9pm May 24 to 6am May 28, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16, lane closure for surveys.

• A46, from 9pm May 24 to 6am May 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4, junction 18 roundabout - lane closures on roundabout and on all approaches to roundabout for road markings renewal.

• M32, from 10pm May 24 to 6am May 25, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M32 northbound, junction 2 - one carriageway closure for maintenance, diversion via B4469, A38 and A4174.

• M4, from 10pm May 24 to 6am May 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4, junction 19 eastbound, lane closures for Network Rail bridge inspection.

• M5, from 9pm May 25 to 6am May 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 15, lane closure for surveys.

• M4, from 9pm May 25 to 6am May 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4, junction 18 to 19 westbound, lane closure for electrical works.

• M5, from 9pm May 25 to 6am May 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 15 to 17, lane closure for surveys.

• M32, from 10pm May 25 to 6am May 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4, junction 19 westbound, entry slip road, lane closure for Network Rail bridge inspection.

• M5, from 10pm May 25 to 6am May 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 16 closed between exit and entry slip for surveys. Diversion via exit and entry slip roads.

• M32, from 10pm May 25 to 6am May 28, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 northbound and southbound, between M4, junction 19 and M32, junction 1 - carriageway closed for survey works, diversion from M32 northbound, - exit at, junction 1, A4174 westbound, A38 northbound, Join M5 at, junction 16, diversion M32 southbound, - exit at, junction 1 and immediately re-join M32 southbound, at, junction 1.

• M4, from 10pm May 26 to 6am May 27, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4, junction 19 eastbound, exit slip road, lane closure for Network Rail bridge inspection.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
