Road closures: dozens for South Gloucestershire drivers over the next fortnight

Drivers in and around South Gloucestershire will have 26 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And one of them is expected to cause moderate delays – with motorists facing a holdup of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that 10 closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M4, from 8pm January 18 to 6am January 22, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 - single lane running for SMART motorway improvements.

• M32, from 8pm January 20 to 6am January 27, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to 17 - carriageway closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via A38. For access to M5 southbound, follow A38, Hayes Way, Merlin Road, re-join M5, For access to M4 follow A38, A4174, M32, M4.

• M5, from 6am October 8 2023 to 6am January 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to junction 17 - narrow lanes in place including southbound, contra-flow lane running on northbound, carriageway for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M5, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am January 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 14 - offside narrow lanes in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M4, from 5am March 17 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

• M5, from 5am March 25 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16 - narrow lanes for SMART motorway improvements.

• M4, from 5am March 11 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 to 19 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

• M4, from midnight, August 30 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to junction 17 including access roads from M4 and M5, junction 16 exit slip road - 50mph speed restriction in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M4, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 14 including access roads from M4 and M5, junction 17 and junction 16 entry slip roads - 50mph speed restriction in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M4, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, junction 15 - 24hr lane closure for bridge deck refurbishment works.

And a further 16 closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• M4, from 8pm January 22 to 6am January 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22, lane closure for structure maintenance.

• M4, from 8pm January 22 to 6am January 27, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 exit slip roads to M5, junction 15 closures for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M4 westbound, exit, junction 22 and return M4 eastbound to junction 20.

• M5, from midnight, January 23 to 6am May 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to junction 17 - offside narrow lanes in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M32, from 8pm January 23 to 6am January 29, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 14 - carriageway closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion for M5 traffic via Merlin Road, Hayes Way, A38 northbound, M5, diversion for M4 traffic via A38 southbound, A4174, M32, M4.

• M4, from 8pm January 23 to 6am January 29, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, junction 15 closed for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M5 southbound, exit, junction 16, A38 northbound, re-join M5 at, junction 14.

• M48, from 10pm January 24 to 6am January 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, M4, junction 21 to junction 1 lane closure for drainage.

• A46, from 9pm January 25 to 6am January 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 exit slip lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 8pm January 26 to 6am January 27, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 17 to 18, lane closure for electrical works.

• M4, from 8pm January 27 to 6am January 29, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 exit slip roads to M5, junction 15 closed for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M4 westbound, exit, junction 22 and return M4 eastbound to junction 20.

• M5, from midnight, January 28 to 6am May 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 14 - narrow lanes in place including northbound, contra-flow lane running on southbound, carriageway for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M4, from 8pm January 29 to 6am January 31, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 exit slip roads to M5, junction 15 closed for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M4 westbound, exit, junction 22 and return M4 eastbound to junction 20.

• M4, from 8pm January 29 to 6am January 31, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, junction 15 closed for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M5 southbound, exit, junction 16, A38 northbound, re-join M5 at, junction 14.

• M32, from 8pm January 29 to 6am January 31, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to 17 - carriageway closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via A38. For access to M5 southbound, follow A38, Hayes Way, Merlin Road, re-join M5, For access to M4 follow A38, A4174, M32, M4.

• M32, from 8pm January 29 to 6am January 31, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 14 - carriageway closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion for M5 traffic via Merlin Road, Hayes Way, A38 northbound, M5. Diversion for M4 traffic via A38 southbound, A4174, M32, M4.

• M4, from 9pm January 29 to 6am January 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 to 23 Prince of Wales Bridge - lane closures for bridge maintenance.

• M32, from 9pm February 2 to 6am February 3, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 northbound, junction 1 exit slip road lane closure for horticultural works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
