Road closures: dozens for South Gloucestershire drivers over the next fortnight

Drivers in and around South Gloucestershire will have 28 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And nine of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with motorists facing waits of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that nine closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M32, from midnight, March 26 to 5am November 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32, junction 1 to M4, junction 19 and M4, junction 19 to 23 used by GWR Railway Replacement Buses for Bristol Parkway to Newport route.

• M5, from midnight, August 31 to 6am November 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 14 - offside narrow lanes in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M5, from 6am October 8 to 6am November 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to junction 17 - narrow lanes in place including southbound, contra-flow lane running on northbound, carriageway for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M4, from 5am March 17 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

• M5, from 5am March 25 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16 - narrow lanes for SMART motorway improvements.

• M4, from 5am March 11 2023 to 11pm March 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 to 19 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

• M4, from midnight, August 30 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to junction 17 including access roads from M4 and M5, junction 16 exit slip road - 50mph speed restriction in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M4, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to junction 14 including access roads from M4 and M5, junction 17 and junction 16 entry slip roads - 50mph speed restriction in place for bridge deck refurbishment works.

• M4, from midnight, August 31 2023 to 6am May 22 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, junction 15 - 24hr lane closure for bridge deck refurbishment works.

And a further 19 closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• M32, from 8pm November 13 to 6am November 18, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 carriageway closure for SMART motorway improvements, diversion via M32 exit, junction 1, A4174, A38, join M5 northbound, at, junction 16, re-join M4.

• M4, from 9pm November 13 to 6am November 15, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 23 to 22 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for bridge maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn bridge.

• A46, from 10pm November 13 to 6am November 15, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A46 both directions Cold Ashton Roundabout to M4, junction 18 carriageway closed for maintenance, northbound, diversion A420, A4174, A432, A46. Southbound, diversion A46, B4465, A4174 and A420.

• M32, from 8pm November 15 to 6am November 18, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 carriageway closure for surveys, diversion via M32 exit, junction 1, A4174, A38, join M5 northbound, at, junction 16, re-join M4.

• M4, from 9pm November 15 to 6am November 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 23 to 22 Prince of Wales Bridge - lane closure for structure maintenance.

• M4, from 10pm November 15 to 6am November 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 to 23 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for structure maintenance, diversion via M48 Severn Bridge.

• M4, from 8pm November 16 to 7am November 21, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 23 to 22 Prince of Wales Bridge - carriageway closure for South Wales Trunk Road agent works, diversion via M48 Severn bridge.

• A46, from 9pm November 16 to 6am November 17, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to 19 - carriageway closure for structure inspection, diversion via A46, A420, A4174, M32 to re-join M4 at, junction 19.

• A46, from 9pm November 16 to 6am November 17, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 19 to 18 - carriageway closure for structure inspection, diversion via M32, exit, junction 1, A4174, A420, A46 to re-join M4 at, junction 18.

• M4, from 9pm November 17 to 6am November 18, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 15 to 16 - carriageway closed for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M4 westbound, exit, junction 22 and return M4 eastbound, M5 southbound, exit, junction 16 and immediately re-join M5 via, junction 16 entry slip road, Alternatively for M5 south use M49 at, junction 22, M4.

• M32, from 9.30pm November 20 to 6am November 21, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M32 northbound, junction 1 entry slip road closure for electrical works, diversion M32 southbound to junction 2 and return.

• M32, from 9.30pm November 21 to 6am November 22, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 southbound, junction 1 entry slip road closure for electrical works, diversion M32 northbound to M4, junction 19 and return.

• M4, from 8pm November 22 to 6am November 23, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 19 to 18 lane closure for surveys.

• A46, from 8pm November 23 to 6am November 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A46 both directions M4 J18 to Cold Ashton Roundabout - two-way signals for inspection/surveys.

• M4, from 8pm November 23 to 6am November 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 exit slip roads to M5, junction 15 closed for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M4 westbound, exit, junction 22 and return M4 eastbound to junction 20.

• M32, from 8pm November 23 to 6am November 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to 17 - carriageway closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via A38. For access to M5 southbound, follow A38, Hayes Way, Merlin Road, re-join M5, For access to M4 follow A38, A4174, M32, M4.

• M48, from 10pm November 23 to 6am November 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 carriageway closure between exit and entry slip roads for electrical work, diversion off at exit slip road and re-join at entry slip road.

• M4, from 7am to 5pm on November 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 17 to 18, hard shoulder closure for horticultural works.

• M4, from 9am November 27 to 3pm December 7, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 17 to 18, lane closure for horticultural works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
