Road closures: dozens for South Gloucestershire drivers over the next fortnight

Drivers in and around South Gloucestershire will have 26 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And one of them is expected to cause moderate delays – with motorists facing a holdup of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that 12 closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M4, from 8pm August 20 to 6am August 21, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 22 exit slip closed for coring surveys. Diversion via, junction 23A and back.

• M32, from 10am August 16 to 3pm August 22, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 both directions, junction 1 exit slip roads, lane closure for grass cutting.

• M4, from 8pm August 14 to 6am August 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, junction 15 closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M5 southbound, exit, junction 16, A38 northbound, M5.

• M32, from 8pm August 14 to 6am August 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 14 - carriageway closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion for M5 traffic via Merlin Road, Hayes Way, A38 northbound, M5. Diversion for M4 traffic via A38 southbound, A4174, M32, M4.

• M4, from 8pm August 14 to 6am August 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 exit slip roads to M5, junction 15 closures for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M4 westbound, exit, junction 22 and return M4 eastbound to junction 20.

• M48, from 8pm August 14 to 6am August 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 both directions mobile lane closure for horticultural works.

• M32, from 8pm August 14 to 6am August 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to 17 - carriageway closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via A38. For access to M5 southbound, follow A38, Hayes Way, Merlin Road, re-join M5, For access to M4 follow A38, A4174, M32, M4.

• M4, from 9pm August 14 to 6am August 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 Both Directions, junction 18 to junction 19 lane closures for bridge construction.

• M32, from midnight, March 26 to 5am November 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32, junction 1 to M4, junction 19 and M4, junction 19 to 23 used by GWR Railway Replacement Buses for Bristol Parkway to Newport route.

• M5, from 5am March 25 to 5am November 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 16 - narrow lanes for SMART motorway improvements.

• M4, from 5am March 17 2023 to 5am January 21 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 19 to 20 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

• M4, from 5am March 11 2023 to 5am January 21 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 to 19 - narrow lanes including 24/7 closure of offside running lane for SMART motorway improvements.

And a further 14 closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• M4, from 9pm August 21 to 6am August 22, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to 19 lane closure for barrier works.

• M4, from 8pm August 23 to 6am August 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 18 to 19 lane closure for structure maintenance.

• M4, from 9pm August 24 to 6am August 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, junction 15 closed for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M5 southbound, exit, junction 16, A38 northbound, M5.

• M32, from 9pm August 24 to 6am August 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 14 - carriageway closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion for M5 traffic via Merlin Road, Hayes Way, A38 northbound, M5. Diversion for M4 traffic via A38 southbound, A4174, M32, M4.

• M49, from 9pm August 24 to 6am August 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M49 northbound, lane closure for technology works.

• M48, from 7am to 12.30pm on August 27, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 both directions Severn Bridge closed for Half Marathon event. Diversion via M4 Prince of Wales bridge.

• M32, from 8pm August 29 to 6am September 1, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 14 to 17 - carriageway closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via A38. For access to M5 southbound, follow A38, Hayes Way, Merlin Road, re-join M5, For access to M4 follow A38, A4174, M32, M4.

• M32, from 8pm August 29 to 6am September 4, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 17 to 14 - carriageway closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion for M5 traffic via Merlin Road, Hayes Way, A38 northbound, M5. Diversion for M4 traffic via A38 southbound, A4174, M32, M4.

• M4, from 8pm August 29 to 6am September 4, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 eastbound, junction 20 exit slip road to M5 northbound, junction 15 closure for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M5 southbound, exit, junction 16, A38 northbound, M5.

• M4, from 8pm August 29 to 6am September 4, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M4 westbound, junction 20 exit slip roads to M5, junction 15 closures for bridge deck refurbishment works, diversion via M4 westbound, exit, junction 22 and return M4 eastbound to junction 20.

• M48, from 10pm September 1 to 6am September 2, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 eastbound, junction 1 entry slip road closure for horticulture works, diversion via M48, exit, junction 2, turn to join M48 eastbound.

• M48, from 10pm September 1 to 6am September 2, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M48 westbound, junction 1 exit slip road closure for horticulture works, diversion via M48, exit, junction 2, turn to join M48 eastbound to junction 1.

• M32, from 9.30am September 4 to 3pm September 7, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M32 both directions, junction 1 exit slips - lane closures for South Gloucestershire Council litter picking works.

• M5, from 9pm September 4 to 6am September 6, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 both directions, junction 14, lane closure / traffic lights for electrical works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
