With its beautiful lake, tree-lined walkways and sports activities, it’s not a surprise the park always scores highly in surveys on parks in the UK, and now it has another accolade.
The park, built on the land that was The Fire Engine Farm, was ranked third in The Top 20 Parks in the UK To Enjoy a Picnic by cocktail brand NIO Cocktails.
The ranking looked at over 4,000 public parks and took into account the quality and breadth of facilities nearby, including toilets and shops. The study also examined the ratings of each park and removed those below 4* and those with less than 250 reviews. It only came behind Sheffield’s Peace Gardens and London’s The Regent’s Park.
We visited the park to see what makes St George’s Park the best place in Bristol to have a picnic. Here are 12 photos from our sunny early evening trip:
1. Welcoming entrance
Visitors are greeted by views of the vast nature in the park and a few stone columns. A blue plaque with the comedian and actor Bob Hope and some references to local history can be found on one of the pillars. | Adriana Amor
2. Beautiful nature paths
There is a path not too far from the entrance where visitors are surrounded by trees on both sides of the path; tree branches arch overhead but let sunlight through. | Adriana Amor
