Review: Bristol Hippodrome's Mamma Mia! is a taste of paradise for Abba fans

With its sunny setting and feel-good songs, Mamma Mia! is a taste of paradise for Abba fans.

Whether you're a fan of the Swedish legends or not, the show is filled with enough catchy tunes from the band that you can't resist singing along.

Pair that with the genuinely hilarious dialogue and plot, and it's hard not to leave the musical feeling lifted up.

Set on a Greek island, the story follows young bride Sophie Sheridan as she invites three men from her mother Donna's past to her wedding.

With the nights growing colder, it truly feels like the winter sun we all need right now.

The way the dialogue seamlessly transitions into an Abba song is always cleverly done, featuring all the favourites.

The cast's vocal range is incredible, especially Donna Sheridan, played by Jenn Griffin, whose rendition of The Winner Takes It All is particularly powerful.

As an audience member, you can't help but appreciate the love-hate relationship between Donna and her former lover Sam Carmichael (Luke Jasztal) and the comedic dynamic it brings to the performance.

Plot-wise, it keeps you engaged as you try to figure out the father's identity, and the unexpected twist left me satisfied.

For Abba superfans, the show ends with a mega mix of their greatest hits, getting everyone on their feet.

Mamma Mia! is a mighty tribute to the Swedish band, and aside from the music, the wholesome plot is uplifting and funny, making it a fantastic watch.
