Kings of Leon will be returning to Bristol for their first gig in 21 years.

The multi-platinum, multi-award winning Nashville-based band will be performing at Ashton Gate on June 23 as part of their Can We Please Have Fun World Tour, which coincides with the release of their ninth full-length studio album of the same name.

Kings of Leon last performed at the O2 Academy in Bristol in 2003. Since their debut in 2003, Kings of Leon – brothers Caleb (guitar/vocals), Nathan (drums) and Jared Followill (bass), and their cousin Matthew Followill (guitar) – have sold over 20 million albums and nearly 40 million singles worldwide, and won three Grammy Awards, three NME Awards, two BRIT Awards, and one Juno Award.

The alternative rock band have toured all over the world, playing at stadiums and arenas and headlining major festivals including Glastonbury, Coachella, Lollapalooza and Reading & Leeds on three separate occasions.

Who will be supporting Kings of Leon at Ashton Gate?

English singer-songwriter and winner of the prestigious Rising Star BRIT Award in 2022, Holly Humberstone and English indie rock band The Vaccines will be the supporting acts at the Kings of Leon concert.

Humberstone has established herself as one of the most exciting alternative pop stars of her generation since finishing runner up in the BBC Sound Of 2021.

Her debut album, Paint My Bedroom Black, was Number Five in the UK Album Charts and ranked by Rolling Stone and NME as one of the best albums released in 2023.

As for The Vaccines, they have sold over two million records worldwide and opened for acts like The Rolling Stones, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys and Muse.

The Vaccines were nominees for the BBC Sound of 2011 and NME Award-winners, and released their sixth studio album, Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations, earlier this year and will will perform at Ashton Gate for the first time during the Kings of Leon concert.

These are the prohibited items at the concert according to the Ashton Gate website:

- Glass, cans, bottles or thermos flasks of any kind

- Flammable liquids and aerosols (including perfume, hairspray etc)

- Laser pens/pointers

- Laptops, Ipads, professional cameras/video equipment

- Food and drink, unless for medicinal purposes

- Signs, banners, flags, inflatables, selfie sticks

- Air horns, whistles or other noise making devices

Kings of Leon Ashton Gate concert road closures

- Ashton Road and Marsh Road will be closed from 3pm to 2am on June 23.

- Winterstoke Road, Wedlock Way, Barons Close and a small section of Smyth Road (from Winterstoke Road to Bower Road) will be closed from 9pm to midnight on June 23.

Taxis and Drop Off/Pick Up

There will be no pre-event designated drop-off point at the stadium and the roads near the stadium will be closed, have temporary waiting restrictions and be very busy.

Post-event, from 10pm Sainsbury’s on Winterstoke Road is the designated pick-up point for private pick-up and pre-booked taxis only.

Shuttle Bus

The event shuttle bus is the easiest and fastest way to get to Ashton Gate Stadium.

Pre-event buses will operate frequently between 3pm and 7pm. Post-event buses will depart after the concert from Winterstoke Road when full and return to collect any remaining passengers.

The shuttle bus start from Portway Park & Ride, Brislington Park & Ride, Temple Meads Railway Station and The Mall, Cribbs Causeway.

There will be no shuttle bus tickets available to buy on the day. Bus tickets can be booked here.

Accessible Mini Buses

There will be an accessible post-event mini-bus operating from Barons Close opposite Gate 1 and driving fans through the road closure to just outside Sainsbury’s on Winterstoke Road. Pre-booking is essential so if you would like to make use of this service please email [email protected] or call 0117 9630 600 (Option 4, then Option 2 and Option 2 again).

Train

Parson Street is a 15-minute walk to Ashton Gate Stadium. Trains available from this station cover much of Bristol, the South West and Somerset.

The final departure from Parson Street to Weston-super-Mare on June 23 will be at 11.20pm and calling at Nailsea and Backwell, Yatton, Worle and Weston-super-Mare.
