Bath Road to Albert Road: Popular Bristol path to close for six months of emergency maintenance work

A popular footpath in Bristol will be closed for up to six months for emergency maintenance works.

May Walk footpath and the footbridge section of Victor Street Railway Bridge in Lawrence Hill, which connect the A4 Bath Road to Albert Road, will be closing for up to six months starting on February 3.

The emergency works will include:

- Rebuilding approximately 20 meters of the retaining wall from a structurally sound level.

- Resurfacing the footpath to address cracks and subsidence.

- Three trees and surrounding vegetation that is causing structural damage will be removed and seven new trees will be planted in the same area or elsewhere in Bristol if that is not possible.

- Drainage channels will be re-laid and the gully at the bottom end will be cleaned. Investigatory work to check if drainage issues could be affecting the retaining wall will also be carried out.

A diversion route will be in place for pedestrians via Albert Road, across Totterdown Bridge and back towards the Three Lamps junction.

A small stretch of the bus lane on A4 Bath Road near the Three Lamps junctions and the pavement on the May Walk footpath side of Bath Road will remain closed during the duration of the works.
