Cardiff City have decided not to appoint Sabri Lamouchi on a long-term deal and have parted company with the France international.
The Bluebirds held talks with the former Nottingham Forest boss over the last week but according to WalesOnline, Vincent Tan has decided not to keep the Frenchman on and discussions did not reach the stage of transfer discussions which means its back to the drawing board.
Bristol City’s Severnside rivals stayed up by five points but 22nd-placed Reading had a six-point deduction. The Robins suffered a 2-0 defeat to Lamouchi’s men back in March.
Lamouchi’s successor will be Cardiff’s 11th manager in the space of a ten-year period. They went through three permanent managers last season and have not had a manager complete the entirety of a campaign since Neil Warnock.
The Welsh club are now on the lookout for a new manager and amongst the contenders for the post are several men who have been associated with Bristol City.
Former Luton Town boss Nathan Jones is the firm favourite for the vacancy though the market has only just opened. Chris Wilder - who had a brief stint at Watford manager is second favourite - but he wasn’t kept on as the Hornets missed out on a play-off spot and was replaced by Valerien Ismael.
Steve Cotterill - the manager of Shrewsbury Town - ranks highest as those with an association with Bristol City. He led City to a League and EFL Trophy double in one of the most memorable seasons in recent history.
Luke Williams who has just let Notts County back to the Football League is another outside contender for the post. Williams was the Under-21’s coach a few years back before linking up with Russell Martin to be his assistant at MK Dons and Swansea City, before taking to management himself.
