Bristol Rovers began the New Year with a defeat as they lost 3-2 to Wycombe Wanderers on New Year's Day. Ryan Tafazolli gave the Chairboys the lead and then in a two-minute salvo Sam Vokes and former Gas man Luke Leahy gave them a three goal lead. Rovers had looked to have failed to utilise Josh Scowen's dismissal in the 62nd minute but then Chris Martin scored a brace in stoppage time.
Rovers are 10th in the league standings and are nine points off of the play-offs. The league goes through a brief pause for most teams now as they turn their attention to the third round of the FA Cup. Matt Taylor's side face a trip to Carrow Road to face Championship opposition in Norwich City.
The New Year's Day fixtures did see some big wins including Portsmouth who got back to winning ways with a 2-1 win against ten-man Stevenage. Blackpool defeated Lincoln City 2-0 at Bloomfield Road, and also Shrewsbury Town beat Fleetwood Town at the New Meadow.
Leyton Orient claimed a 2-0 victory over Cambridge United, whilst Peterborough United beat Derby County 3-2 at Pride Park. Carlisle United won 2-1 against Port Vale, Bolton Wanderers narrowly managed to get past Burton Albion with a 2-1 victory, and in a five-goal thriller at the Madjeski Stadium, Reading beat Exeter City 3-2.
Despite the defeat, two Gas players have found themselves in the official League One Team of the Week. The formation is your traditional 4-4-2, and it is based on the player's WhoScored ratings for their performance last time out.
