Bristol City have seen some fairly big away followings over the course of the 2023/24 season.
The Robins took the maximum allocation of 8,924 tickets to West Ham in January and it made for a good day out at the London Stadium. Tommy Conway scored an equaliser and then they beat the Hammers at Ashton Gate.
In the next round, City got an allocation of 2,893 tickets and saw their team battle valiantly against Nottingham Forest but were defeated by the lottery that is a penalty shootout. Nevertheless, City have had some good days out in the FA Cup this term, and have seen some promise in what Liam Manning is trying to do.
Close away games against Swansea City and Cardiff City came early in the season and so there's a bit of travelling to do but they do still have a trip to Home Park to face Plymouth Argyle. Saturday sees them one of their furthest games out of the way as they face Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium. Their remaining trips this season include; Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich Town, West Brom, Plymouth, Sunderland, Norwich City and Stoke City.
A busy period of fixtures this month means that the season will be 3/4 of the away completed and that gives us a good indication on which teams are the best supported. Some clubs might see bigger attendances depending on what they're battling for, whether it be for promotion to stay in the division. City are currently seven points off of the play-offs, and so there's still an outside chance that with a good run of form, they could still be involved in the promotion picture.
The second tier of English football has a variety of different clubs, with some coming from one-club cities whilst others are in area that is well populated with teams. Geographical location is key in some cases for teams, as being in the middle of the country means that travelling to away matches doesn't feel a drag.
And so that brings us to our main point which is what teams are the best supported on the road this season? Thanks to those at The 72, we've collated a table from the fixtures up until Thursday, February 8, and have worked out the averages. Here is how Bristol City compare to the likes of Plymouth Argyle, Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall.
