An equaliser from Elliot Anderson to cancel out Kane Hemmings’ opener saw Bristol Rovers come away from promotion rivals Tranmere with a point as they battled to a 1-1 draw at Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon.
The draw saw the Gas drop a place to sixth with Northampton drawing 0-0 with Bradford City and Mansfield Town overtaking them with a 4-0 win over basement side Scunthorpe United, who are destined for the drop.
There were also wins for Newport County and Salford City, who are hot on the tails of Rovers, behind them by just a point and two. Newport won late on against Swindon, whilst Gary Bowyer’s Salford emerged after beating Harrogate Town.
Sutton United, who are three behind and have a game in hand, are also a side to be wary of as they narrowly beat Leyton Orient.
With five games remaining in the season, any dropped points now could be costly with consistency needed.
Fortunately for Rovers, they have been one of the better performing sides since the start of the New Year and have been a tough team to break down.
But with a triple-header of fixtures against Salford (8th), Port Vale (3rd) and Forest Green Rovers (1st), the table could look very different after the Easter period.
Here is how the ‘data’ experts at FiveThirtyEight predict the 2021/22 League Two season will finish and whether Rovers will be thinking of the automatics or planning out potential days at Wembley at the end of the campaign.
