Bristol Rovers have reasons to celebrate after winning promotion back to League One at the first time of asking.

The Gas finished third in the League Two table, having never occupied the spot until the final day of the season, overturning a five goal deficit over Northampton Town.

Joey Barton has assembled a team that the fans can be proud of, with it being evident that they play for the shirt and battle until the end.

There has been a perfect balance of players just starting out their careers and those that have been there and done it.

You go from the likes of Paul Coutts and Glenn Whelan, two experienced players that have played at a higher level, to the opposite like Luca Hoole and James Connolly.

Hoole and Connolly alongside the ever reliable Connor Taylor have been solid at the back this season. They’ve also chipped in with a few goals this season.

There’s also Elliot Anderson who came from Newcastle United as an unknown quantity and left the Memorial Stadium as a promotion hero, with talk of him being the best loanee in the club’s history.

It illustrated that Barton wasn’t afraid to throw youngsters into the mix of high pressure situations throughout the course of the season.

With there never being a definitive recipe for success, we thought it would be interesting to see how the ages compare across the division. Taking away goals and assists from players over the age of 23, there is a much changed league table whilst for others, their success on the pitch matched their commitment to blooding through youngsters.
