The out-of-contract League Two centre-backs Bristol Rovers could sign - including Chelsea man
Centre-back is an area of concern for the Gas and that is the position they need to prioritise in the summer.
Bristol Rovers have 11 days until their next League One fixture, which is a Good Friday clash against Charlton Athletic at the Memorial Stadium.
It'll be 20 days between their 2-0 defeat to Portsmouth, and their match with the Addicks, and there has been a chance for players to take a breather before the final set of fixtures of the campaign. Rovers have a busy April and May ahead, with several double game weeks, including a trip to Shrewsbury Town on the final week of the campaign.
In the off period, Rovers have played and beaten Premier League outfit Aston Villa over the international break, despite being without star man Aaron Collins and others. Several players and staff will be allowed rests, but there's a feeling at the Mem that there is an eye already on next season.
Joey Barton's side have struggled to put a consistent run of form together, and have suffered some frustrating defeats, in the midst of good wins over Forest Green Rovers and Oxford United. Barton wished that the season could be over now, but he still has nine games to manage.
This period without any competitive fixtures is the perfect time to cast an eye on who they could sign next summer. Rovers' place in the third tier looks assured, but a big problem is their reliance on loan players which makes up a chunk of the squad. Rovers have several areas of concern, more specifically centre-back, with Jarell Quansah and Lewis Gibson, set to return to Liverpool and Everton this summer.
Here's 14 players who have played in the League Two this season or are contracted to fourth tier clubs that could be worth considering. What do you think?

1. Tommy Smith (Colchester United)
He’s got experience mainly in the Championship with Ipswich and has been in League Two the last couple of years. He could still be an option to have however. Photo: Pete Norton/Getty Images

2. Sam McClelland (Chelsea, on loan at Barrow)
McClelland fits the profile of a Barton signing, a young player that has been on the books of a higher division club. He’s 21-years-old and has been at Barrow this season, and also has one senior cap for Northern Ireland. At six foot three he could be a commanding presence. Photo: Justin Setterfield/Getty Images

3. Romoney Crichlow (Huddersfield Town, on loan at Bradford City)
Crichlow is with promotion chasing Bradford City and is out of contract with huddersfield in the summer. He’s had experience with Plymouth Argyle in League One, but has mainly played in League Two. Crichlow is 23 and could be an astute signing. Photo: George Wood/Getty Images

4. Alex Pearce (AFC Wimbledon)
Pearce has experience mainly in the Championship with the likes of Derby and Reading. An experienced head alongside some youthful defenders could be a good option. Photo: Nathan Stirk/Getty Images
