Another centre-back remains a priority for Bristol Rovers and there are still a few players available for free
League One teams continue to assemble their squads for the 2022/23 season in the hope of achieving their goals.
Some teams like Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday have had a flurry of transfer activity in the last week or so.
Bristol Rovers meanwhile have brought in John Marquis, who linked up with them in Portugal, but no other player has come through the door after him.
A centre-back looks to be the next position that the club needs to strengthen as they seek a partner for James Connolly, who worked so well with Connor Taylor last year.
A lot of the better centre-backs have been snapped up but there are still some players that could be worth pursuing.
There’s a real mixed bag of high-end centre-backs and then some who need to build up some match experience. Some have had experience of playing in the third tier whilst others could make the step up.
All free agent centre-backs are listed below - would any of these be of a good fit at the Memorial Stadium?

5. Callum Johnson
Predominantly a right-back but able to cover at centre-back, Johnson is an outside option but they may prefer someone who is more nailed down to the role.
Ben Garner’s Charlton Athletic are reportedly interested in him and after the signing of James Gibbons who is a similar versatile player this may be a non-starter. | Getty Images Photo: Dan Mullan/Getty Images
6. Luke Prosser
He’s not really been tried at League One level and has mainly playd in the fourth tier, whilst time isn’t on his side either, but Luke Prosser, formerly of Stevenage remains a free agent. 7. Nathaniel Knight-Percival
Nathaniel Knight-Percival’s got more than 600 appearances in the game ranging from the Conference to the Championship. The 35-year-old has just been released by Tranmere Rovers after playing 21 times for a side that just missed out on the play-offs. Given his last three campaigns have been in League Two, perhaps it would be best suited to look elsewhere. | Getty Images Photo: Lewis Storey/Getty Images
8. Ben Coker
Ben Coker’s just been released from Stevenage after two consecutive seasons at the club. They’ve not had the best of seasons but preserved their Football League status.
