Joey Barton says that he plans to keep hold of Scott Sinclair at Bristol Rovers. Sinclair is into his second spell with the Gas.

The 33-year-old signed a short-team deal with the club back in October, and has been with them for just under a month. He scored his first goal in the blue and white quarters against Rochdale in the FA Cup a fortnight ago.

Last week, Sinclair made his first league start for the club against Fleetwood Town, playing the entirety of the match. He has racked up four appearances so far for Rovers, having 209 minutes of game time.

Sinclair originally signed on a short term contract, which runs out in January. It is the intention of the manager to keep the high-profile signing at Rovers.

“We want to keep Scott and we want him to stay a part of us and he’s been fantastic,” he said. “No doubt in the next couple of weeks that will progress. He’s just getting up to speed and he is in a good situation.”

With the January transfer window open in 45 days time, Rovers will want to ensure that they can keep Sinclair at the Mem. Rovers have plans to sign players and have already began the process of identifying targets.

Barton last week stated that he expected there to be interest in some of his players given the recent performances. Sinclair has only made one start so far, but his return to senior level football could attract potential suitors.

Barton said: “He’s in the shop window because he is playing. He’s having a settling in period. I would keep him beyond the end of this season and even beyond that.

“I’d be happy to have him as part of our group. Hopefully he feels the same when he gets the chance to sit down and have a chat with him and we get something sorted before the barmyness of the January window opening.”
