The young duo have linked up with former Gas favourite Lee Mansell at Meadow Park ahead of the 2022/23 season.

The Pirates made the tough decision to part company with both of them following their promotion from League Two in the last campaign under Joey Barton.

New moves

Tomlinson joined Bristol Rovers’ academy at the age of 10 and rose up through the youth ranks.

He penned his first professional deal at the Memorial Ground back in 2019 and went on to make five first-team appearances, one of which came in the league.

The midfielder, 21, was also loaned out to Bath City, Torquay United and Gloucester to get some experience under his belt.

Tomlinson has said, as per the Tigers’ official club website:

“I’m buzzing, it was always in my mind to come back, knowing the gaffer and being here last season - it just made sense, I’m very happy.”

Phillips, on the other hand, played twice in cup competitions for the Gas after progressing through the academy.

He had stints away at Chippenham Town, Dorchester Town and Swindon Supermarine in non-league to get some game time.

The attacker has said:

“I’m delighted, it’s been a long time coming. I’ve enjoyed my time over pre-season, training with the lads and getting to know everyone - I’m ready to get going now.”

The pair will now both be looking to make an impact in the National League North. Mansell’s side finished 17th in the last campaign and are in pre-season action today against Oxford United.

Bristol Rovers kick-start life back in League One with a home clash against Forest Green Rovers this afternoon.
