Ranked: League Two’s 20 best young players - including Bristol Rovers, Mansfield and Exeter stars

League Two is continuing to be the division where young players can thrive in a senior setting

League Two has continued its reputation of being the division for young players to strut their stuff as they make a progression in the senior game.

In previous years, the likes of Ben White, who was at Newport, has gone on to represent England, whilst 2015/16 Premier League winner Kasper Schmeichel once had two loan spells at Bury.

And this season has been no different with plenty of players either 21-years-old or younger, enjoying an important season of development to their careers.

Some have stood out better than others and that brings up a debate of personal accolades and whether they are deserving of their awards.

The League Two season awards were handed out by the English Football League in London on April 24, and prize handed out was the best Young Player.

Newport County’s Finn Azaz pipped Bristol Rovers stalwart Connor Taylor and Leyton Orient defender Shadrach Ogie to the Young Player of the Year Award.

His six goals and five assists for the 11th placed Exiles was enough to impress the judges, who preferred his attacking stats to Taylor’s defensive contribution of 15 clean sheets in the league this season.

Football is a game full of opinions and fans will argue whether it was justified or not, but one of the better ways is to look at the statistics and how they stack up.

Looking at WhoScored, who played a part in the awards, by providing player ratings over the course of the season, there is a clearer picture.

Below are the 20 best players in League Two this season based on their rating of football analytics service WhoScored.

*Players included have had to have made a minimum number of appearances, close to playing at least half of the season
