Plymouth Argyle manager Steven Schumacher believes Aaron Collins is deserving of his League One Player of the Year award.

Tuesday’s meeting at Home Park between Plymouth Argyle and Bristol Rovers will have all three of the individual winners at the EFL Awards. Schumacher won the Manager of the Year, whilst Bali Mumba was crowned Young Player of the Year for the table-topping Pilgrims.

Collins, crowned the best player in the third division, is the other winner from the awards and there was no complaints from the opposition boss about the decision to give the Welsh attacker the prize. Collins has 27 goal contributions this season, finding the target 16 times whilst also getting 11 assists, including a goal against Plymouth in October.

In his pre-match press conference with the Plymouth Herald, he said: “It’s no secret that they are going to be up for it, they are going to want to come here and try and stop us in our promotion push. That’s fine, we understand that.

"Just looking at the two teams, without any of the other stuff on the outside of it, they are a really good team. Aaron Collins got voted League One Player-of-the-Season and deservedly so.

"His numbers this year and his stats are outstanding. They have got some really good players and we know we will be in for a hard night."

Plymouth and Rovers have met three times already this season with two meetings in the EFL Trophy, both going in the favour of the Devon-based side. Rovers drew 2-2 at the Mem in October, battling from two goals down to get a point against one of the chasing pack.

In Rovers’ last match they lost 2-0 to managerless Port Vale which saw numerous changes made by Joey Barton.  Plymouth are on the verge of promotion after winning 3-1 against Cambridge United on the weekend. If Plymouth win tonight and on Saturday, they will win promotion to the Championship.

Schumacher “added: They have played a few different systems of late and have had some really good results as well.

"They obviously had a disappointing result for them on Saturday at Port Vale.

“We know all about their players, whatever way that Joey sets them up and comes here then we will have to try and figure out a way how to stop it."
