Tonight’s opponents Oldham claimed a much-needed win against fellow relegation strugglers Scunthorpe United on Saturday though they are still in the relegation zone.

Oldham are currently second from bottom and five points adrift of safety and they are a whole 15 points behind Rovers, who have a game in hand.

Joey Barton’s side dropped out of the top 12 on Saturday after their draw but a win could at least take them up to 11th.

What’s the latest team news for Bristol Rovers?

Deadline day signing Elliot Anderson could be in line for his first start after an impressive cameo off the bench against Sutton United.

Midfielder Jon Nolan isn’t expected to play a part this evening with the midfielder instead focusing on a phased return to action.

Rovers were without Leon Clarke and Ryan Loft again on Saturday leaving them with just Harvey Saunders as an attacking option on the bench after letting Brett Pitman join Eastleigh.

Both forwards are expected to return in the next two two three weeks with Clarke having a muscle injury whilst Loft has a problem with his back.

Anssi Jaakkola is expected to stay between the sticks this evening with James Belshaw perhaps back for Saturday’s match with Mansfield Town.

Alfie Kilgour is Rovers’ long-term absentee though the defender is hoping to be back on the grass in the next week to ten days as the club manages his knee injury. Full-backs Junior Brown and Trevor Clarke remain out of the first-team picture with injuries.

There is a return though, Luca Hoole is available for selection after serving a one-match ban following his red card against Walsall.

What’s the latest team news for Oldham Athletic?

Davis Keillor-Dunn is the Oldham Athletic player to keep an eye out for as he is their top scorer this season with six goals though he hasn’t found the back of the net since scoring a brace in a 5-5 draw with Forest Green Rovers in December.

Their top assists maker is surprisingly defender Carl Piergianni who has three assists this season.

Goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler recently returned from international duty with Canada and is expected to continue there.

Mike Fondop last week was handed his debut after his release against Hartlepool United but picked up an injury early on and could be doubtful for this match.

Meanwhile winger Tope Obadeyi returned to Oldham for a second spell after leaving for French side Sochaux and he is a player who will be pushing for a start after a sub appearance Saturday.

Form guide and head-to-head

Oldham have only lost one of their last five league games and since the arrival of John Sheridan, in his sixth spell at the club, they’ve picked up four points from two games and have yet to concede a goal. Saturday’s win though was their first since early December and they haven’t won in four matches at home.

Rovers though are in good form with four wins and two draws in their last six, finding the net in all competitions with the last shutout back against Forest Green Rovers in November.

Bristol Rovers hold the slight advantage over Oldham in that they have won 26 times out of the 61 meetings between the two sides, with the Latics winning 20 and there being 15 draws.

In the reverse fixture at the start of the season, Rovers came out on top with Harvey Saunders scoring the only goal at the Memorial Stadium in a 1-0 win.

In Rovers’ last ten meetings they have lost twice and drawn two times, leaving them with six wins in their last ten against tonight’s opposition.
