Bristol Rovers £7.5m squad transfer value compared to Port Vale, Carlisle United, Cambridge United and Exeter City

An updated look at how all 24 League One clubs compare for total squad transfer value.

Bristol Rovers have tried numerous ways to get in to the Championship and in the summer there was optimism around the place that they could challenge.

The Gas changed their transfer plan, and Joey Barton whilst signing young players on loan, looked to the experience of George Friend, James Wilson and others. Wilson had won the League One title with Plymouth Argyle, but has been dealt a few injury problems this season.

Rovers were always going to find it tough to be a promotion challenger, given the resources some clubs have in this division. Several teams once played in the Premier League, and right now, whilst there's an outside chance they could reach the play-offs, it would be achievement if they did so.

The January transfer window may be shut, but there will be plenty of thought in to what happens then. Players are out of contract, and are likely playing for their futures.

One of the big stories of the winter window was Aaron Collins' move to Bolton Wanderers. Former boss Joey Barton valued Collins at £4m, but he ended up going for much less than that. Barton likened Collins to Scott Twine who made the move from MK Dons to Burnley, and despite winning the League One Player of the Year award last season, Rovers could not get what Barton claimed the Welshman was worth. Nevertheless, hopefully that money can be reinvested back in to the squad in the summer, in what will be a huge job on Matt Taylor's hands.

Taylor has had to bring in some loans to beef up the squad right now, and there's been some mixed results. Rovers lost six of their last eight games in 2024 before overturning a two-goal deficit to beat Stevenage on Tuesday night.

As we approach the final quarter of the 2023/24 campaign, we take a look at the current squad values of Rovers, and their League One rivals. TransferMarkt has priced up what every Rovers player is worth, and here is their combined value against the likes of Port Vale, Carlisle United, Cambridge United and Exeter City.
