League One is one of the most interesting divisions in the top four tiers of English football.
It's a league situated between the Championship, which could almost be considered a Premier League 2.0 at times, and League Two, which is just one division above semi-professional and full-time football.
England's third tier is a division that has some clubs that once dined at the top-table of English football. Birmingham City and Bolton Wanderers both played in Europe, whilst Blackpool and Charlton Athletic have also spent some time in the Premier League.
Ipswich Town and Sunderland discovered how hard it was to get out of the division, and so it's a league that no one wants to stay in if they hold big ambitions of mixing it with the big boys. The dream for Rovers is to get out of the division and go up, but not since the 1990s have played in the second tier.
They once dropped out of the league, but Joey Barton got them back to the third tier, and last year, Matt Taylor helped consolidate their position. At the moment, they find themselves closer to the relegation zone than they do the promotion places.
It’s early days yet, but the table is beginning to take shape and it comes as no surprise that Birmingham are doing so well. They invested a lot in to their playing squad and shattered the previous record for the league when they signed Jay Stansfield.
Rovers broke their transfer record when they signed Promise Omochere, but that was nothing compared to the reported £10m that Blues paid for the England under-21 international. To give an idea of the disparity between some of the teams in the division, we have taken a look at the TransferMarkt values of all the teams in the league.
