League One team of the week features Bristol Rovers, Wrexham and Reading stars

The League One team of the week for fixtures played on August 31 has been revealed.

Bristol Rovers bounced back from from their defeat to Stockport County by beating Cambridge United 2-0 at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

Club record signing Promise Omochere got himself up and running as he got off the mark with his first competitive goals for the club. He scored on the half hour mark to put the Gas in front and then three minutes in to the second-half, he extended their lead and there would be no response from Garry Monk's side.

With four games played in the League One season, Rovers find themselves in ninth and are only outside of the top six because of goal difference. Their defeat to Stockport last weekend is their only defeat of the campaign and they have so far picked up a respectable seven points from a possible 12.

The big winners from the weekend where Shrewsbury Town and Barnsley who beat Leyton Orient and Crawley Town 3-0. League favourites Birmingham City who spent up to £20m to secure the signing of Jay Stansfield from Fulham left it late to beat Wigan Athletic as fellow deadline day signing Scott Wright scored a stoppage time winner.

Some teams find themselves in EFL Trophy action this week, and then have a league fixture, whereas others won't play now with it being the international break. Rovers are up against Barnsley this weekend, and that game is live on Sky Sports. As Rovers prepare for their next fixture, we take a look at the League One team of the week based on the player ratings from WhoScored.
