One Gas player makes the cut after his part in Bristol Rovers’ 1-0 win over Port Vale.
Bristol Rovers claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Port Vale at the Memorial Stadium - defeating former manager Darrell Clarke. The Gas got their first league win since their victory against Peterborough United on November 25.
Aaron Collins notched his 11th goal of the season, as with less than five minutes remaining on the clock, he provided a 'moment of magic' as described by manager Joey Barton. The 25-year-old has 18 goal contributions for the 2022/23 campaign, ranking him as the most productive player across the Championship, League One and League Two.
Despite being the match-winner, he was not individually recognised for his part in the Rovers' latest win in League One. The Team of the Week has been announced and he is nowhere to be seen. In his place is Connor Chaplin, who beat promotion rivals Peterborough United with the striker scoring a brace at Portman Road.
The other position in which Collins could have taken is striker, but James Collins of Derby County has been preferred. Collins - signed on a free transfer from Cardiff City - scored in the Rams' 1-1 draw with Burton Albion on Saturday but former Gas man Victor Adeboyejo equalised for the Brewers.
There is some representation however from the Pirates in the Team of the Week, coming in the form of one of their loan players. Bobby Thomas, on loan from Burnley, is included in a back three that also inculudes Mark McGuinness, who plays his football at Sheffield Wednesday, after joining on a season-long loan from Cardiff City.
Here is the rest of the team for League One, it is based on WhoScored, which provides a statistical insight in to players. They also play a part in the outcome of the Player of the Month and Player of the Year awards.
