Bristol Rovers get their League One campaign back underway when they travel to Huddersfield Town at the weekend.
The Gas were afforded a break after their game against Blackpool was postponed because of international call-ups. Rovers did play in the EFL Trophy but were on the receiving end of a thrashing from Swindon Town.
Over a week has passed, and that’s given the players time to get that defeat out of their systems. Rovers are bottom of their group and are unlikely to progress to the knockout stages of the competition.
Ultimately the league is the priority, and they will want to improve on their position of 16th. Matt Taylor was coming under pressure until he masterminded wins over Charlton Athletic, and Burton Albion.
The season is between nine and 11 games old, with some clubs playing through the international break. Already some teams are without their players owing to suspension after picking up five cards before the 19th game of the season.
All good sides are disciplined, and try and keep all 11 players on the pitch of the end of every match. It’s easier said than done as the opposition can wind you up, or you can be forced in to making a last-ditch tackle that doesn’t always pay off.
