Bristol Rovers hope to get their third league win in a row this Saturday in their first league away game since late November, with the Pirates taking on their former manager Ben Garner in this clash.

This is only Rovers’ second league game back since their COVID outbreak in December.

The Gas managed to defeat Hartlepool United 2-0 in their last match - a wonderful last minute free-kick scored by star player Antony Evans helped them secure the win following a goal from Aaron Collins a few minutes before.

Rovers are still confident that they can take down the Robins, but it will be a tough challenge as in Swindon’s most recent game they beat play-off contenders Port Vale 3-1 who Rovers lost to in early December.

The sides are separated by eleven points but Joey Barton’s men who are looking to climb the ranks for a play-off position have two games in hand. If they were to collect six points in those games, the Pirates would be only three points out of the top 6.

What’s the latest team news for Bristol Rovers?

Summer signing Sam Finley is looking to head straight back into the starting line up as he has returned from his three game suspension.

Striker Leon Clarke is back into contention after recovering from the hamstring injury he suffered at the beginning of the season, but Clarke could be waiting longer to get in on the action due to new signing Ryan Loft who also plays as a striker.

Midfielder Zain Westbrooke will no longer be in contention for the Gas as he has left the club on loan until the end of season. Westbrooke has joined fellow League Two side Stevenage, who are placed 20th in the league table.

Harry Anderson, Aaron Collins and Connor Taylor all returned to the starting eleven after missing out in the unfortunate FA cup loss against Championship side Peterborough. Glenn Whelan is still yet to reclaim his place in the starting line-up and January transfer window signing, James Conolly is still yet to make his league debut and it doesn’t look like it will change.

What’s the latest team news for Swindon Town?

Jack Payne and Mathieu Baudry will not be available for selection due to injury. Baudry is back in training and Payne will be eased back in next week.

Joseph Wollacott flew back last night, following Ghana’s elimination from AFCON and will return today to see if he will start or not.

Ben Gladwin is going nowhere after signing a new contract with the Robins and manager Ben Garner hints that he will start tomorrow when he said “I hope he will be as good tomorrow as he was in the previous game.”

Head-to-Head

Swindon Town and Bristol Rovers last faced each other in October, which saw Garner get one over on his old club with a 3-1 win thanks to goals from Payne, Gladwin and Mckirdy. An early goal from Harry Anderson gave Rovers the lead, but it was clearly not enough.

Rovers have not had the sweet taste of victory against the Robins since November 2019 where they faced each other in the Papa John’s trophy (EFL Trophy), taking home a 1-0 win with a goal from current Oxford united player Billy Bodin.

Since the 21st century they have faced each other 21 times in which Swindon came out on top, winning nine games and Rovers winning eight, with a total of four draws.
