How many points do Bristol Rovers, Northampton, Tranmere, Newport, Swindon and Mansfield need for automatic promotion from League Two - based on previous seasons
Bristol Rovers are within touching distance of the League Two automatic promotion spots
Joey Barton’s side are behind third-placed Northampton Town, only on goal difference with the Cobblers better by just the one goal.
The Gas, who a few months ago looked miles off the promotion places, are now well involved in the end-of-season run in with promotion the aim.
Bristol Rovers, have statistically been the best team across all four divisions since the start of the year, which makes for good reading in the League Two table if it started on New Year’s Day 2022.
They are currently on a four game winning run and out of their last ten matches, they have won eight o f their matches, so form is being hit at the right time.
It’s a closely contested division with each weekend throwing up fixtures that have significant importance on the placing of each team. In fact three teams in Rovers, Northampton and Tranmere are all on 63 points.
Newport and Swindon Town, who occupy the other play-off spots, are only behind the automatics by two points, so any slip up made by a team is usually punished by the chasing pack.
It all looks set to be an exciting climax to the League Two regular season with plenty of twists and turns to come from now until early May, with the play-offs thrown into it.
We take a look back at the last ten years, excluding the 2019/20 season as that was shortened, to see what has been required to get out of the division in third.
